I've had a few cars that called for x.5 qts and I'd always round up. Just check the oil level here and there
I have always been over the full mark in my vehicles as I round and it's fine. Just as long as you aren't insanely over.

That's what I would do.
My wife has a 2012 Chevy Cruze with 1.8 liter. Per the owners manual, the crankcase capacity with oil filter change is 4.76 quarts. I am tempted to just dump in a 5 quart jug of whatever oil I pick and call it done. Is there any problem overfilling by 8 ounces of oil?

4.76 quarts is exactly 4.5L.

But yeah, you're fine putting 5qts. in, you will be overfilling a very insignificant amount.
Years ago I worked in a chemical lab. I've been totally a*n*a*l about specified requirements ever since. Our 2.3 EB Explorer specs 5.7 qts and that what it gets
. Though it does have a max mark above the the fill area. Probably 6 qts will take it to the max mark.

I bet if you drained your oil until it drips like once every 15 seconds which I purposely do after an hour or even take it off the jack stands to assure the drain hole is level or even tilted towards the drain hole to get the most out of the pan...you'll fit 5 qts in there no problem and it won't even show any overfill with the dip stick.
5 quarts and done.
