My wife has a 2012 Chevy Cruze with 1.8 liter. Per the owners manual, the crankcase capacity with oil filter change is 4.76 quarts. I am tempted to just dump in a 5 quart jug of whatever oil I pick and call it done. Is there any problem overfilling by 8 ounces of oil?

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

I do the same on a 2.7 4cyl Toyota, I don't think its a problem at all, but my ride is older than your cruze and isn't turbo charged.

Dump 5 quarts in and call it a day. I did that with my 3.0L Ford Aerostar and my 2000 Buick Century which IIRC both called for 4.5 quarts of oil.

My new Toyota Camry has a 4.8 quart capacity. I just changed it and dumped in a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1. After running it until it was hot, then letting it sit in the garage for several hours, the oil level checked right at the "FULL" hole on the stick.

The dealership typically over-fills my leased '18 Equinox 1.5T. Its only about 8 oz over, as user oldtom notes on his. (They over-fill it even when I slip in a note not to explicitly.)
The Owner's Manual says do not overfill. Yet, if we don't see any bubbles on the dipstick, then we know the crankshaft isn't striking the oil surface and frothing it up.
Check for bubbles after a full warm--up and highway run preferably. No bubbles, no problem.

Yes, but he still has a 5 quart jug. OP once again, drop the 5 quarts in and sleep well at night,

My G35 calls for 5-1/8 quart (owner's manual) or 5.3 (probably 5.25 rounded up - from the FSM) with an oil filter change. I used an "oversize" filter, put in all of a 5-quart bottle's contents, and the dipstick level is dead-center between the marks.

I never do. Old school.
I prefer to go under than over.

That's 1 cup of oil. No problem at all, and I've done the same on several vehicles with no issues.

Over 10 years ago, only in Japan/Australia/NewZealand, the 'cruze' names was used on a Suzuki vehicle, yes. Cars made after 2007 have been based on German Opel basic chassis designs, completely different than the old Suzuki design. No relation or resemblance.

Liters can be converted to quarts, as weird as that may seem to some....
