neighbor got a 2007 1500 Chevy 4.3, rough shape, but runs good with 155k miles. His dad has a ton of rotella T5 10W30, would it be ok to run it in his truck for 5k intervals? I heard something about diesel oils can soften the bearings or metals in a gas engine? I might just dump in the jug of Mobil 1 0W40 Euro in it that i have sitting around with no use for, i dont think it would hurt it. His dad has a '94 chevy with the 4.3 i noticed that truck takes a napa gold 1036, while the '07 takes a 1040, which is shorter. same specs except for the length, so it shouldnt hurt to use the longer 1036? They wanna buy a case of filters and be done with it.

I have found that in my 4.3 that it runs smoothest/quietest with Pennzoil. Pennzoil Conventional or Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra. I would just use Pennzoil Conventional in that thing. Diesel oil will do no harm. I have used diesel 15w40 in mine before and it was great. I would however do the 5K mile dino oci you are speaking of. The OLM goes too far in mine I think. But hey, im a bittoger, when im bored, l like to change fluids unnecessarily

Most diesel (HDEO) is also approved for gas engines, it wont hurt at all to use the rotella. lots of people with 4.0jeeps prefer diesel oil, and some use it to help clean a dirty engine. I would use it over the 10w40 oil

Some of the best used oil analysis I've seen are on Pennzoil conventional. I'd use it with confidence. Rotella 10w30 should be great.

Rotella T5 10w30 is API CJ-4 and SM, so it's approved for both diesel and gas engines. Absolutely no problem using it in the 4.3. As for the filter, the shorter filter may be used due to clearance issues. I'd check that out before buying the longer filters. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any issue with running the longer filter, but probably no real benefit either.

Where did you hear that?

I use the longer filter on mine, because the extra length makes it a lot easier to get ahold of when removal time comes.
