3rd water pump

Getting some BMW vibes here. Got an 04 BMW 325i w/ 72k mi which I finished installing it's 3rd water pump. Went with a Saleri water pump (which is supposedly the manufacturer for the OEM pump.) Hopefully it will last longer than the other German made aftermarket pump.

Several of you are missing the fact that he’s been replacing the water pump with an OE pump every time.
What I got from it was the third pump was OEM. Doesn't mean a thing if something is else is causing the failure be it OEM or aftermarket.

Not really. He didn’t exactly specify every replacement ust the 3rd pump. *What Lubner said.

Also Spasm isn’t wrong about the different tiers of AC Delco parts. Advantage, Professional and OE.

It’s very easy for a shop to say they use Delco parts when it’s the cheapest thing available.

All parts are factory parts not rebuilt. Last time he replaced the surpintine belt and the other parts looked fine. He used the green mixed Gm coolant. I will tell him about the info from here. A few months ago he replaced all of the heater hoses for the cooling system. jz

Stick with original equipment.
That is not always the best route anymore with AC DELCO....depending on the line he uses, its the same chinesium parts as the parts houses. AC DELCO Advantage line is a low quality line which is not the OEM Ac Delco part.

Always use the ACDelco one, I learned the hard way that aftermarket ones for LQ4s are junk out of the box.
Actually all the LQ4 and LQ9 6.0L for whatever reason leaked early. My Denali leaked at 34k miles and was replaced under warranty. It leaked again about 85k miles and I replaced it with a Gates and so far at 174k still ok.

You hit the nail on the head! AC DELCO Advantage is nothing more than the chinesium parts available at the parts stores. Shops say they used GM parts but really are not. I stay away from the Ac Delco Advantage line....it is basically the same junk you get from Autozone's Valuecraft line up

With factory parts they replaced the pump no charge. I paid for labor. Not a easy fix. jz.

Ya, OE vs OEM. The cheaper ACDelco lines would be OEM parts. OE is the Genuine part but with the automaker insignia removed or missing. OEM is a part made to fit the application but not the original part.

Tell us exactly how you prepped the surface and water-ever else you did while installing the gaskets. Did you use a torque wrench?
Edit: I see your mechanic did the work. I believe you are not supposed to use sealants with these gaskets. Ask your mechanic what he torqued the bolts to. ( just to check if he used a torque wrench).

Here is a shot from Rock Auto. By the way, which engine is it?

I believe this design of WP was used before Dexcool was put into service.
I don't think so. He says it's an '04, my '99 Northstar was spec'd for dexcool. I suppose that different engines may not have had dex in them at the time, but it was being used by GM at that time, particularly for aluminum block engines, and probably universally.
And before I get flamed too badly on my original statement, my info came directly from the former Northstar engineer that frequented this board for a bit. If the engine was spec'd for dexcool, changing to "silicate" containing coolant will cause premature WP seal wear....and you can't flush it out.

That’s great.

If OE pumps are only lasting an average of 65K miles each I think I'd try a different possibly cheaper option. I've always used aftermarket branded water pumps and never had a premature failure. Even on engines with water pumps driven by the timing belt where they recommend replacing the pump when changing the timing belt I only change the pump every other timing belt change.

You are correct about old GREEN coolant not good for DEXCOOL designed systems. GM went to DEXCOOL starting in 1995.

I will say this about dexcool. I’ve owned many GM vehicles throughout the years and I haven’t replaced a WP ever since dexcool came out. I’ve had a few intake manifolds go bad but not a WP.
