In both tests (and all future tests) he has been using the NAPA Gold oil filter.

TexasAggie,

Two of the main reasons I personally recommend a 15,000 mile/1 year change interval are not technical, they are an attempt to make the recommendation as "idiot proof"

as possible ....

I have a number of local customers who "forget" to change the Amsoil Super duty filter after six months and run the same filter for up to 15,000/1yr. Dissecting and examining used Amsoil filters I've run for 12k-15k miles/1 year indicates this is NOT going to cause problems in most cases.

I also have other customers who remember to change the filter after 6-8 months, but run the oil for 15,000 miles even if this takes 18-24 months. I've run several batches of different Amsoil formulations for two full years and 20k-25k miles, with 1-2 filter changes; then tested them. Again, my data consistently shows that a 15,000 mile/2 year change interval w/ Amsoil is going to be fine in the vast majority of cases ....

I was just over at 3MP's site and on the 1 May sampling he mentioned that his oil was black like used oil ought to be. I have roughly 8K on my 5W30 ASL now and the oil looks like honey still. I must admit that it was looking a little dark (like iced tea) the other day when I changed the filter and added a quart at 6K. Now after a 2K trip to my daughter's house and back the oil looks clean again.

Now I'm wondering if I should drain and sample at 10K like I had planned or just sample and see if I can push on with it.

Mobil at one time did say their Mobil 1 product would go 25,000 miles per oil change. The major US manufactures quickly said it will VOID your engine warrenty so Mobil pulled back and recomended the manufactures extended drain interval. In addition:mobil started their 1,000,000 miles Mobil 1 engine test. Ed
