Taking a drive on some inter-town roads w/o red lights, I managed 36 on a 50 miles round-trip, >40 mpg by the time I got home. Not too bad for a car w/under 1000mi. It's a 1.8 Ecotec manual. oem oil, 89 octane, no 2-cycle oil in the gas and original oil.

35 seems quite do-able, 32 is EPA. Long-term mpg is at 28, one over EPA combined, but driving mostly suburban and basicly hammering it to promote break-in.

Very pleased with the result and the Astra is incredible. It's easily my favourite car in it's class and maybe even prefered over some higher-end cars.

Seriously.

Glad you are enjoying the Astra. Too bad it was not marketed better so more people could have known its potential (or even known it was there).

Hi Audi Junkie,

That's great!

My Saturn SL1 is around 45 MPG at 70 MPH, will do a run at 55 to see what it can actually get.

Thats not bad!!

When i had my 94 SL2 Automatic, i got around 35 MPG on the highway.. Not bad at all for a 94!!

Now i get around 12 with the Taurus... SAME parts of the highway too...

What a shock!

Thanks for everyone who chimed in. I can muscle 40 mpg for a short time, but theses back roads are too much fun at speed..
