350z Motor Oil

Does anyone have UOA result for Greddy 5w40, and Pennzoil Platinum 5w40 for out VQ engine? I went to Greddy car show few month back and seemed like people like that Greddy oil.
I've heard that Pennzoil Platinum is not True Synthetic although many Z/G owners like this oil..Is it or is it not?
One last question, Is the thickness of Mobil 1 0w40 pretty similar to Castrol 0w30?

Not much info is available about the Greddy oil, but it is really overpriced. Why did those people "like it"?

The German Castrol 0w30 is heavy and very close to a 0w40, in reality.

Over priced makes it better.

I bet greddy oil is over priced group 3, don't waste your time. If you just have a couple bolt ons or your stock any synthetic at walmart will do. Before I was using redline, GC syntec 0w30 worked good.

The two you asked about in your first post are definitely fine. Mobil 1 0w40 and [German] Castrol 0w30 are both excellent oils given how readily available they are.

I guess if you want to step up there's stuff like Red Line 5w30, Motul 8100, etc.

I'll be daily driving and drifting once in awhile in my Z. So i want something thicker than 5w30 because i don't engine oil becomming water when drifting. I'm running castrol 0w30 but i'm having ticking sound in my engine which ididn't have previously. So i'm trying to figure out what oil to get for next oil change

I`d go with any synthetic 40 weight.

Mobil 1 0W40 and 15W50 AFAIK are group IV/V based oils. I`ll be changing mine soon and am going with the Mobil 1 15W50. I`ll do a used oil analysis on the current RP fill (ordered my Blackstone kit yesterday),then I`ll do a used oil analysis on the Mobil 1 and see which one comes out better. Do you have a Z? If so, 15w50 would be too heavy for a Z.
Does it cost you do to used oil analysis test?

I have a Z32 300ZX. The VG30DE engines spec anything from 10W30 to 20W50 via fsm. The VQ engine you have seems to do the best with a 40 wt,according to what I`ve read on a few different Z33 forums.

Mobil 1 0w40 contains higher amounts of PAO than the other varieties. It's one formula they haven't changed over the years.

Honestly, who cares if it's "true" synthetic. It's a great oil.

Please don't assume that used oil analysis as a comparative medium between various lubricants will produce any more meaningful data than the actual condition of the lubricant at that point. This may be helpful in determing OCIs and may alert you to a coolant or fuel intrusion

"End on end" used oil analysis using different lubricants is a very imprecise tool in determinimg engine component wear rates. This can only be done on a "trending" basis - and preferably using the same lubricant

Although i was asking how the oils i mentioned are great in general, but i was hoping for some 350z or g35 owners who have done used oil analysis done to answer.

350riot - While engine family data is very helpful it is still not a picture of your engine. Many variances occur in vehicles that have been modified etc that can skew such data. Helpful?, interesting? yes - much more than that well..............?

This is why people become concerend when comparing data from air cooled Porsche engines - 911s in particular. There are so many variances on the theme that started in Zuffenhausen decades ago that "pooled" UOA data from the aftermarket is very unreliable as a comparative tool!

Mine is 05 350z. I'm going to try 5w30 next time although i want to try Mobil 0w40 to see if 0W is causing the problem.
