34.1 MPG in the Saturn !

Took a family trip in the reassembled () 96 Saturn SL2 Auto (98k miles) to San Francisco yesterday, 60 mph most of the way given the weather. EPA Ratings for this vehicle are 24 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

I have about 80%+ SuperTech Dexron III(H) in the transmission, 4 new Michelin Hydroedge tires pumped up to 36F/32R, 2300 miles on Maxlife 5W30, NGK copper plugs, Delco wires, and new PCV valve, all with 2000 miles on them.

About 20% of the tank's miles (236 total), were of city driving. 1/2 of those city miles were of San Francisco Chinatown stop and go.

I think 34.1 is pretty darn good for this car...especially with four people, lots of cargo, and even the original O2 sensors!

34 is good in a saturn? i thought they were suppose to get 40 plus.

My 97 T-bird with the 4.6 liter V8 gets about 27 to 28 mpg on the highway.

EPA rating is 34 highway...and only 80% of the driving was on the highway...isn't that good? I still got 34.1.

Not bad, i'd be getting 34 mpg too in my toyota but I don't have the luxury of living in cali

I got 34 in my Accord driving 75-80 on the highway with about an hour of stop and go between Sacramento and LA, that car was only rated for 31 highway. No idea what was in the engine/transmission at the time, as I had just picked up the car used.
