300 Ford Oil Filter Options

I cut open some new filters this morning trying to find a better option for my natural gas powered 300 Ford irrigation engine. Note the pleat count of 41 on the carquest 85515HD (says made by Baldwin) versus the Baldwin B2-HPG at 50 pleats.

I have been getting high iron ppm in my oil samples (136ppm) using the Carquest 85515 at 240 hour intervals. Just installed a Baldwin B2-HPG on the last oil change switching to the Baldwin B7311-MPG next time.

Been running Amsoil Stationary Natural Gas Engine oil. Might switch to Schaeffer 114S after my Amsoil is used up. I’d like to get to mid 300 some hour (or higher)oil change intervals.

I’ll add a Baldwin B2 photo soon. It hasn’t shown up yet.

Can't really go by pleat count ... need to measure the total media area to get a better indication of the amount of media.

A full flow oil filter (even if pretty high efficient) will not really effect the UOA ppm because it won't filter out particles that small. The UOA only can measure particles that are ~5u and smaller. 136 ppm of iron is a lot for 240 hours it seems.

This looks to be a Fram PH8a sized filter.

I would use a Wix 51773 two quart version if it fits…
Wix 51515 otherwise…

Look on Rock Auto for good prices…

I have yet to pay more than $50 for 5 gallons of conventional 15W-40 and $100 for full synthetic 15w-40…

Look for other makers of Natural gas motor oil.

If you do not have a catalytic converter, a ZDDP additive may help…

Did the Ford unit come with oil and filter recommendations? A bypass filter would be a good addition, the kind that uses toilet paper.

I just ordered some Schaeffer Natural gas oil to try. No cat on the 1970’s engine.
