People are just learning that cars can safely go 300k miles. My old boss knew my car was "high mileage" and made me rent a car when I needed to make a mission critical delivery for my company. That was 60k miles ago. People in my wife's office that drive Chryslers think the Rav4 will blow up at any moment. It just started making from weird noises so it just might do that.

I think it depends on driving habits mostly, A car with all city miles and a driver that guns it and stops hard at every light might not make 300k without some costly maintenance/repair.

I just sent a van to the wrecker. A Chev with a 305 with 550k kms and the engine still ran great however thrives decided to trash the side barn doors making the van unsecure thus I cant store tools in it anymore.
And the jerks stole one of my new compressors. I think it was an employee who hasn't shown up since the theft.
I found the compressor at a local pawn shop. Pawned by the employees cousin.

That's where I'm coming from. Yes maintenance is important however my work vans are maintained to minimum standards yet keep on rolling. They only drive around the city loaded with tools however they never leave the compound cold. They get started when I show up(winter) so the compressors and generators can get some warmth for easier starting.

I sold an 85 Z-28 LG4 5sp with 289k only because I had a family and had outgrown it. I bought the car in 88 with under 50k on it. The kid that bought the car drove it away, spinning the tires[against my recommendations]. If I had kept the car, 300k would've been easy. I don't know if he made it or not.
