Looks like everything on these 2nd gen dodge trucks revolves around the steering box. Its all connected to the Pittman arm which i dont see why that would ever wear out. Does the steering shaft go bad too? My truck goes down the road pretty straight except for the steering wheel play. You just kind of turn it to one side and work with it from there. I put a seal kit in the hydroboost pump and that stopped that from leaking. Looks like the steering box leaks slightly now, but nothing like that hydroboost was leaking. Are they pretty much back to brand new steering wise once you put in a steering stabilizer and a new steering box? This is a 2wd truck, but from what I hear they still use the same box.

Absolutely. The steering shaft has a ujoint that wears out. You can probably adjust the steering box some, but its doubtful that will work.

The steering box is worn heavily on my 3rd gen. I shimmed the ujoint on the steering shaft a bit and it works better. I'm selling it soon so I dont care about fixing either one.

My 3rd gen dodge uses a rack and pinion setup for the 2wd trucks. Steering is still tight after 250k miles. Can't say the same for all the other components, but I haven't had to change out the steering box, but I dont think it has one. This truck loves to eat inner tie rod ends though. Now the 4wd setup has a setup closer to my 2nd gen 2wd truck I think.

My 05 is AWD + 4x4 and it goes through upper ball joints in no time. A few months back I replaced everything in the front, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, shocks, rotors, wheel bearings and all bushings. It took a few days to get use to the like new handling but it was worth it.
