250cc scooters

I don't understand why people buy scooters anymore. There are plenty of small motorcycles that are far more capable, reliable and more efficient. Plus, they handle better, and are often more practical.

Some people like not having to shift, and for others with bad knees and such, a scooter has more comfy ergos. And others like the styling difference.

Not complicated: 70+MPG!

More or less ruled out the XY260...the same dealer just got another one in. It's...well, here it is:

They just got it in last week.

My 250cc Yamaha got 85MPG after some mods, got 78 before. So its not really the fuel economy. I just know that there must be a market for the things (outside the 50cc range) or companies would not make em.

That is entirely another point. Just saying the fuel economy issue is a false notion. If you see my other post I actually defend the niche of scooters in the two wheeled market.

They have their pros and cons.

I have ridden motorcycles on the street since I was 15 with a 125cc restriction. When I was using a motorcycle as my sole method of transportation, carrying grocery bags would have been a lot easier on the floor board between my feet on a scooter. My lower legs would not have gotten as wet in the rain.

I'm partial to shiftable scooters myself but I did not scoop up the 2-stroke steel bodied 4-speed Genuine Stella before they became 4 strokes.

No gears to shift. Storage space. Different styling. Not as noisy; assuming it's not a 2 cycle anyway.

It's almost insane how much cargo I can carry on my Yamaha Vino 125, especially since I added a top box capable of holding a full face helmet. The under seat storage can also hold one. Filled up with groceries, it holds a LOT! You have to unbag it and pack it in, if really want to fall it up. Keep the bags and rebag everything to carry it inside when you get home.

At 85+mpg, it's worth the extra effort compared to my 10mpg motorhome if it'll fit in the storage compartments.

I loved the Honda Helix's trunk space. I had a HUGE early 80's Goldwing top box on it as well (not in the photo above). I used the passenger seat to haul waterproof float bags (inside of the army duffel) full of clothes and camping gear as well (shown in the photo above).
