25 cents for 15 minutes?

And soon the local parking meter fees will go up.

I'm in the city, as you may know. If I take the car to the post office, which is about 2 miles from my house, I will have to circle the block a few times to find a free spot. Then I have to put at least 50 cents in, because the post office appears to be in cahoots with the parking enforcement. They make every effort to ensure your meter expires while you wait in line.

Why not take the bus? I'll have to wait 30-45 minutes of a bus, then switch to a train, spend quality waiting time at the post office, then go all the way back. Cost would be $1.25, but taking care of the trip to the post office will take about two hours!

Don't say "walk." It's only uphill!

Blaah, when I was a kid we used to have to walk to school, in 3 feet of snow, barefoot, uphill both ways, carrying my paino for band perctice...

Yes, I live in a bizarro world, Gary. It's uphill both ways.

Yup, that's what it is in some places here in Miami - 25 cents for 15 mins, and even that is limited to 2 hours in many spots. So if I visit my friend in South Beach and need to park my car overnight, their apartment complex charges me $12. :/

25 cents for ten minutes in NYC, you have to carry saddle bags of quarters to park.

Of course, the municipality hopes you don't feed the meter.

In NYC the fine is 65 busks.

Bicycle!.

Hills are my favorite. Builds stong defined legs. Parking is easy. Bicycles get the equivilent to 1500 miles per gallon. Plus gives you a reason to visit here to fine the right chain lube, grease and stuff.

Bring one of those small kids' scooters, park further away for free, and scoot over to the post office.

msparks, I've ridden so much bicyle in my youth, my legs are still nicely defined. Too much info, you say?

It's the hills, the road conditions, and other circumstances that make using a bike unpractical. For those crappy streets I'd need a new mountain bike, because my very nice Gary Fisher was stolen out of my locked garage two years ago. I don't have enough space to keep my bike in my apartment, and if I were to keep my bike in the covered car port, it'll rust away in a month, because I live 200 yards from the ocean. Furthermore, almost every intersection between me and the post office is a 4-way stop. Did I mention the hills? I don't even see bike messengers in my area! The only people on bicyles are 4-year olds in driveways here. And I should probably also mention that I usually combine my post office runs with trips to the supermarket. I really don't see myself hauling a small trailer behind my bike to get groceries.

Approaching 300 million or so but no one knows for sure.

I believe the Census Bureau may have removed the report from their site predicting a population of around one BILLION within 100 years if current legal and illegal immigration levels remained the same.

Those knowledgable of the human impact upon the ecosystem shiver with dread at the billion people figure. Even now the USA is experiencing shortages in vital resources in various parts of the country; groundwater depletion, lack of water in the west, etc. Locally, we had one winter when there was a fear of insufficient natural gas supplies to heat abodes.

Gonna' be really tough times for your great-grandkids but the politicians do not care.... they can only see the quarterly profit sheet just as the corporations do.
