This is the 2nd UOA on my Ford Transit sitting at 19450 miles on the motor and 9450 miles on the oil, which was again Castrol GTX HM 5w30.

I am much more pleased with the results this time, the oil stayed within grade. Alas, I had switched to Quaker State FS already after this last oil change but will be interested to see how that UOA turns out.

Clearly this semi-synthetic is good enough for a 10k oci with my 12 qt capacity vehicle!

A 15k OCI doesn't really seem unreasonable based on this UOA and the size of the sump. Do you plan on extending it out to 15k or just run 10k OCI?

So my original plan was to test Castrol GTX to see if it was good in this vehicle for a 10k oci. The 1st UOA came back out of grade but still a heavier 20 grade.

This 2nd one came back fine. However I had already switched to QS Full Synthetic.

No matter what oil I use im not going to push more then 10k to 12k. Im using Purolator One filters that got updated from a 10k to a 15k filter but I like to be conservative.

Nice report. The prior UOA was for sure the same grade of GTX HM? That's a huge difference in sampled viscosity.

I would consider using a different analysis firm that uses a reliable method for determining fuel dilution. You don't say your location but it's possible the first sample had higher fuel dilution due to colder weather.

Other observation: You drive a lot, is this a delivery vehicle or passenger shuttle vehicle?

Delivery vehicle. No cold weather. Its possible i made a mistake and picked up a box of 5w20 instead of 5w30

Im not usually careless and havent done that before but i pre-purchase and throw in my garage. Its possible one of the boxes could have been 5w20 if i didnt check carefully? IDK

Looks like 10k miles is a decent OCI for this engine with your usage.

So this oil was in use for roughly a month?

Looks good-now figure out how to keep that 10R80 in one piece. (And let me know how if you do!) The 3.5 EFI/DI is a great engine, that’s not the issue with the big Transit.

Yeah I'm not sure why everyone is in love with this transmission. Everyone loved to dunk on the 8L90 in my old van but I never had a problem with it.

I'm going to shorten up the fluid replacements and see what happens, thats all I can think to do 🧐
