235K tranny fluid?

I have about 900 miles on Maxlife ATF in my 4L60 and the transmission seems happy. The truck and transmission live an easy life though.

See youtube professor, John Kelly about the topic.

All the full compatible is a marketing deal.

Show where all the manufactures gave approval for using it.
No manufacturers give approval for use of Maxlife but that doesn't mean it isn't suitable. No manufacturer gives approval for the use of any aftermarket fluid, Idemitsu and Aisin included.

Some manufacturers will license their fluid specification (Dexron, Euro, etc.) but some do not. For those who do not then any fluid other than the OEM branded fluid is an aftermarket fluid.

So much lore about ATF. Maxlife is not "for" GM and "some Ford" transmissions any more or any less than Honda and Toyota. Valvoline says it is suitable for the vehicles listed in their list, and as far as that goes they are all equally suitable.

Needs to be done. If you’re lucky maybe it was once.

I’d argue you go slow. If there’s a drain plug, just drain the pan and refill. If not, extract by the dipstick. The idea is that you want to slowly add detergents and dispersants in there and get some new fluid in before changing everything. Get what you can into the old filter before swapping to a new one.

I’d run the OE fluid and get it done.
