I’m looking for oil for and which brand should I go with? Also planning to change out factory oil at 1k miles.

Mobil 1 0w20 ESP or Mobil 1 0w30 ESP
(Order online)

Top Tec 6600 0w20 (online maybe)

CASTROL EDGE EXTENDED PERFORMANCE 0W-20 ( local Walmart)

Amsoil 0w20 green bottle (online)

Redline is not available for 229.71

Well the only oils on your list that's on MB's sheet is Castrol Edge extended performance 0w20. Mobil is also on there, but there's so many flavors that you need to make sure you get Mobil 1 x2 ESP 0w20. There's no 0w30 on their list. Amsoil is also not on the list, but that might be typical as they don't tend to be certified by the manufacturer that often.

All things being equal I would use the Mobil 0w20, but I wouldn't pay much more for it than the Castrol if that was significantly easier to get hold of.

So you have car that has warranty.
Forget oils that say "meets" and "exceeds." You need oil that has MB229.71 approval. Redline Performance series is never approved against any Euro specifications, so forget Redline.
Amsoil is mixed picture. They have some approved, some not, which IMO seems they are struggling meeting requirements of approvals they did not get.
Safest bet? Mobil1 0W20 X2. Make sure it is X2.

Buy the cheapest approved oil or the one that's easiest to procure.

Liquimoly Toptec 6600 is on there too.

My interval is 5k and I never do 10k interval because I don’t believe in that anyway.
0w30 Mobil one ESP has higher HTHS than 0w20 esp. No one like top tec 6600 0w20? Isn’t that 100% synthetic?

How long do you plan on keeping the car? I mostly do about 10k oil changes, sometimes in the 8-9k range just because of winter and not wanting to do it when it's really cold out. Although once I let it go to about 11k. One of them is over 125k and the other is over 110k. If you read the UOA that people post on here that do 10k, the labs say the oil is fine and good for several thousand more. That's science. Doesn't matter what you believe.

Get Mobil1 X2. Try visiting your local Napa store and see if they have it or can get it for you at the discounted price. Otherwise, get online

So wait, this thread is about 229.71 oils and neither of those Mobil 1 oils are 229.71 oils. Unless you mean Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 and you just keep leaving the x2 out?

Pardon to bring up an old thread.

If I cannot get MB 229.71 oil locally , what specs should I be comparing on an approved 229.71 oils to see it’s suitable or at least close enough?

Thanks!

Thanks guys for the responses.

I have a A45s 2020 that has MB229.71 as it’s approved oil. Am from Singapore where the MB229.52 (0-5W 30) is more ready avail across common brands like Mobil, Castrol, Motul.

There is the HKS 0W20 (API SP) and Mobil 1 Triple Action Power+ 0w20 avail locally hence trying to find out how far off are they from 229.71.
