My old Ram Van: 208k miles on engine: your alls opinion on changing from Mobil 1 10w30 to 15w50 synthetic. My reason: high mileage now, can be carrying up to 2500 pounds in van, summer heat, climbing mountains, cold weather ect.

Mobil 1 15W/50 will do you fine if you're looking for a Synthetic.

Otherwise, with the miles and all you'd probably do fine on a conventional 20W/50 like Pennzoil Conventional or Castrol or similiar. With those miles, you can't extend the OCI as much due to blowby and other variables of a worn engine getting to the oil so you may be better off with a cheaper conventional oil changed out around 4-5k miles. Just my thoughts and what I'd do.

If you are not burning oil, I would not make such a drastic jump higher in viscosity.
Thick oil runs hotter, for one reason, and it's internal drag is greater, which hurts power and MPGs.

If an OIL temperature gauge shows 220 or more, then consider using a thicker oil.

Don't do it, the better flow of thinner oil will help dissipate heat. Do you have a pressure gauge?

do not have a real pressure ga, just the one that came on it, reads between 40 and 60 as best I can tell when runniing at freeway speeds, at idle just a bit under 40psi on ga.

+2 Great idea Pablo. Chevron Delo 400 15w40 is an excellent product and won't break the bank.
