2026 Rivian R2 First Review

I saw a Rivian SUV locally yesterday and did a double-take, it was reasonably sharp looking and definitely stood out. Think it was an R1S, as it was quite large.
I saw the pickup and like you said it really stood out to me. Really nice looking small truck.

I like everything about the truck except the front end. Just not a fan of the look, but if I had one, I guess I would get used to it. I don’t know. If someone gives me one, I’ll gladly take it because the rest of the truck looks awesome.
Just need to see it in the wild

Yeah, as a standalone who knows? ICE products absorb EV losses in other companies.
Lucid is another example.
That goes for all vehicle manufacturers. Including Tesla, like the two models they just cancelled and lets not forget the cybertruck disaster being supplemented to the tune of 10+ billions of dollars from their other vehicles and the carbon credits to the EV only company and their solar/ storage battery business supplementing their losses.

Bottom line is all manufacturers carry losses until they decided what to do.

We all know the S and the X would have not been discontinued if Elon didn't have such a crackpipe plan to built robots.

That's different; I was referring to ICE (and hybrids) supporting pure play EV losses.

And I’m just referring to other unprofitable EV models supported by the profitable ones as well as other business ventures of that automobile company

All is fair when companies are losing money on a product being supported by other products

Recon $65k. 230 miles of range. I don't see this doing well.

"THIS!!!!!"

"I think this will be a big hit, despite the slowing demand for EVs."

655hp/610lb tq
0-60 - 3.6 seconds LOL
Starting cost - $45k

I remember some people saying Rivian wouldn't make financially for the R2 to see production. I could see this giving Tesla a run for their money.

Allegedly a website leaked the specs a day early and it said this. Could be all made up by someone online though - we’ll see.

It's been shown over and over that giant heavy wheels kill range. Why do manufacturers keep putting 21,22,23 inch wheels on everything. I would have thought that Rivian would have limited that.

People said that about Tesla as well. At one point they were 6 weeks from bankruptcy.
Sure, but different companies have different challenges outside of the market they service. Other major car companies are moving away from EV models for a reason.

Come to my street. My next door neighbor had the original RAV4 EV, which was made here at Fremont in joint with Tesla. Now they are on their 3rd Bolt lease; they flat out love those things. The newest one is the VW hippie van EV a few doors down. Kinda cool, but lousy range. I am one of the holdouts as there are numerous 2 EV households; I only have 1. The F-150 Lightning seems to be gone.

Then there's the drop-dead gorgeous Taycan... OMG.

Should I run 'em, say 0 to 130?

Have you ever driven a fiat 500e?

Yeah, and an original Tesla Roadster, and a Ford focus ev. I worked for an independent dealer that specialized in ev and hybrids but sold a little of everything. The fiat 500e needed about 250 miles of range. The original really was a city car with 80-92 miles of range. Crazy torque from the fiat 500e.

Only $70,000 for the Jeep?
I guess if you have the disposable income for a new toy why not? I know lots do.
I would be a Rivian R2 guy is about all I would do. Save about $25,000. I just wish that front end looked different ... ok, maybe a Equinox EV is my speed *LOL*
