2026 Rivian R2 First Review

I know what you’re saying believe it or not!
We see a fair amount Tesla’s on the road here. Sometimes we think they’re all over the place.
Meaning every time we go out, let’s say it’s a 30 minute drive to Costco chances all we’ll see one on the way maybe even two
Locally not unusual to see one either.

Actually, we have a Tesla in our neighborhood, a hummer EV pick up truck, and a Chevy equinox EV oh, and a Cadillac lyric!!!!
The freaking Hummer is drop dead gorgeous, even the color…. Is a unique baby blue …even my wife feels the same really nice. Who cares if it’s practical or not😀 I wish I had it
Who cares about practical, if that's all it was about most people would drive 20 year old Corollas and all the plumbers would use Brightdrops they got at half off MSRP. Not me making my 3 mile commute to me $25/hr job in a Tesla with FSD and plumbers using lifted Chevy Diesels to fix one leaky pipe. Nothing against plumbers or diesel trucks just making a point lol.

When the hummer EV first came out someone came into work with one to buy some car wash stuff and I told them nice truck do you love it? They were surprised I knew what it was haha.

I guess we’ve come a long way because I don’t see probably around a realistic price of $55,000 and more that affordable
But then again, maybe I got left behind in this world😜
The average new vehicle sales price is $50,000.00 But yea-new vehicle sales are starting to trend down-and Dealer's inventory at an all time high-so you could be right.

Allegedly a website leaked the specs a day early and it said this. Could be all made up by someone online though - we’ll see.

There’s a saying, I’m sure if I went to the West Coast and seeing all the electric vehicles I would be saying to myself I’m not in Kansas anymore ha ha
Come to my street. My next door neighbor had the original RAV4 EV, which was made here at Fremont in joint with Tesla. Now they are on their 3rd Bolt lease; they flat out love those things. The newest one is the VW hippie van EV a few doors down. Kinda cool, but lousy range. I am one of the holdouts as there are numerous 2 EV households; I only have 1. The F-150 Lightning seems to be gone.

Then there's the drop-dead gorgeous Taycan... OMG.

Should I run 'em, say 0 to 130?

A local business we did some computer for work last week has a RAV4 EV as one of their delivery vehicles. I was like WOW I haven't seen one of those in a long time!

Yeah, I’m aware of that. I would like to know what the median is. Average doesn’t reflect what mainstream America is spending
However, I’m not ferociously defending that because we all know much of mainstream America is OK with taking out a 72 month mortgage to buy a car

Still average selling price doesn’t reflect how much the population is spending and what the middle ground is

A suspect the reason you can’t find median selling price for an automobile is it is not a government collected statistic and would probably get into demographics

Whereas with housing, you know the median price of housing in any given area, which means half the people buying a house of spending less than that number and half the people buying a house of spending more than that number

It’s something I always search for and I could never figure out why you can’t find that in cars unless being a skeptic of the media it doesn’t make a good headline

Big discounts on the hippie van, really really big!

I thought they were all gone. I think they were lease only, could be wrong. Range was pretty poor, as I recall. But they had a big hand in starting the EV phenomenon.

I didn’t even know they existed. But then again I live on the East Coast.😂
Just like this... Maybe a CA only car? Around 2012 as I recall? I understand it was the way, with Toyota's help, for Tesla to to learn to build a mass produced EV. This car was ahead of its time but used a nickel-something battery that was slow to charge and limited range.
It is at least possible that if Toyota had seriously entered and drove the market back then they would own the EV business. Everyone would be chasing them.

The average income (published) in my city is $118,000.00 But many make far beyond that. I have a hard time spotting a vehicle that sells for $50,000.00 around here. They are (generally) much more expensive. Plenty of $80,000 Suburbans, Higher Trim pickups, Tesla, and Rivians.

That seems pretty reasonable. That Launch Edition interests me. I tell myself I’m going to keep the Tesla for a long time, but the new car itch takes over. I’m fighting it.

I think this is like the 3rd RAV4 EV I've ever seen in person in my life lol. So I guess they must have sold them too?

I’ll have to say I don’t disagree with you. I was only bringing up the point the way media uses numbers can be confusing it’s a little more clear cut when we’re talking about housing, but I stress a little bit more clear cut. Because government tracks that.
This is a perfect example of a county I’m familiar with. There is per capita income, median family income, medium household income, medium average, this that the other thing it’s crazy.!
So this is the fed and this is the most straightforward

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MHINY36059A052NCEN

Then someone let’s see from the media could look at something like this source below and have to ask, which numbers are they using?
Scroll down it’s unbelievable
https://zipatlas.com/us/ny/c/nassau-county.htm

But honestly, just because these people here make those incomes doesn’t mean they’re standard of living is better than in lower cost areas..
Everything is more expensive, homes that you pay $1 million for can be half the price in other places of the country and taxes 1/10 as much stuff like that.
Not sure what any of this has to do with cars except why I question average car price.

Plenty of expensive vehicles, every place, much of it financed, some not but you never know who because people don’t exactly hang a sign saying I took out a 72 month mortgage to buy this vehicle or I took out a 24 month lease.

I see you’re on the West Coast, which explains the proliferation of electric vehicles that seemingly sometimes are almost nonexistent here except as I described in a previous post

I have a theory. Poor people buy nice cars because they know they can't afford a house anyway so why save up money for one? Rich people buy nice cars because they have money (duh). And the people in between... drive the beater Toyota on the right, and are probably the most financially stable of everyone whose car is in this picture.

Dave Ramsey says something like this. Drive through a middle class neighborhood. The ones with the newest nicest cars will never be millionaires. He explains those with the big car payments is a cash trap and better to have a good used car.

I have no idea why I’m posting this😂 I think just because in the financial news, this frequent mention of how backwards much of the population is on cars and getting worse
