2026 Rivian R2 First Review

We host an electric car show in Town and I had to pleasure of closely looking at an R1 and talk to the owner. The Rivians are probably the most practical and normal looking electric SUVs on the market. And from the owners description, looks like a blast to drive and easy to live with. He didn't seem like a guy who was easy to please either.
I agree, something affordable will sell like hot cakes. Look at the Bolt. Its a tiny little econobox, but an affordable EV. GM couldn't even cancel it.

Yeah, I think it looks good, and it's reasonably priced compared to everything else.
I've always liked the way they look. If I were in the market for an EV, it would probably be a Rivian.
I don't trust it to hit those numbers, but if it did I could see buying one.

I’m not surprised I actually read you a post after I made the post above this oneFull pricing, trims and specs released tomorrow (12 March 2026). Apparently the $45,000 quote has been deleted from their website in recent days too.

Earnings come out May 5 2026 for the first quarter of this year. Last month in February,they reported earnings for the last quarter of 2025.
The last quarter of 2025 revenue was down 25%
Clearly, they need something to up their game in a climate that EV sales are getting killed.

I think I can remember one occurrence when my wife and I saw one on the road here. I guess it all depends where the dealerships are and chargers.

What a wild difference. In my area the car distribution is approximately as follows.
70% Tesla
10% Rivian
10% GM EV
5% Other EV
5% other cars.
AND YES THIS IS A JOKE the real numbers if I look at the cars on the road around me as I walk or drive are probably 7% Tesla, 3% other EV, 90% other cars, but it FEELS like the above distribution.

We see a fair amount Tesla’s on the road here. Sometimes we think they’re all over the place.
Meaning every time we go out, let’s say it’s a 30 minute drive to Costco chances all we’ll see one on the way maybe even two
Locally not unusual to see one either.
Actually, we have a Tesla in our neighborhood, a hummer EV pick up truck, and a Chevy equinox EV oh, and a Cadillac lyric!!!!
The freaking Hummer is drop dead gorgeous, even the color…. Is a unique baby blue …even my wife feels the same really nice. Who cares if it’s practical or not
I wish I had it.There’s a saying, I’m sure if I went to the West Coast and seeing all the electric vehicles I would be saying to myself I’m not in Kansas anymore ha ha
