2026 GMC Sierra EV Denali - Things aren’t going so well.

Just got the call from the dealer, the vehicle is repaired and ready to be picked up. I’ve received about three phone calls from the GM concierge, who is trying to coordinate the handoff to the repurchase team which I guess is handled at a regional level. So we are picking up the truck early next week and park it because I know they’re going to charge me roughly $.26-$.29 per mile during the buyback process. Today is day 91 that it has been in the shop.

Finally got contacted by the repurchase team. They admitted they are backed up due to a number of factors and were apologetic. Sounds like I have to login to some portal and upload documents and pictures and then it will be 2-6 weeks for them to draft up the repurchase agreement. I do appreciate that they included the following paragraph in the email.

“This correspondence serves as a confirmation that General Motors will offer to repurchase your vehicle under the terms of State Lemon Law.”

Helps sleep better. Up until now, everything was just verbal agreements to repurchase.

How does that work with the sales tax, registration, title, and road tax? Do the reimburse you or do you have to eat that?

Good for you, Im glad everything is proceeding ok. The stress must have been enormous until you got to this point.

TBD. I’ll let you all know.

Also, 100% glad we are getting rid of this thing. We took it to the feed store for some hay. There is a new issue with the front left suspension. It is popping over bumps but it is a different pop this time. Now it feels like a piece of stiff metal getting tensioned and then releasing.

Then, once the truck was loaded up, I turned it on and went to shift into gear and got a “Conditions not right to shift.” message. At this point, the center stack went black and was completely unresponsive. Because the truck doesn’t have a key or ignition switch and the only way to manually power off the truck is to use a virtual button on the screen, it was dead in the water. I was able to exit the vehicle and waited one minute for the screen backlight to turn off, got back in, and the truck started and acted normal.

I get the conditions not right to shift if I try to put my Blazer in gear too quickly, but but never had the black screen. I wonder if yours had all the vehicle wide programming updates to the control modules. It's crazy how poor the quality control is. I haven't had a single major issue with my Blazer EV. Some people have nothing but issues.

What are you going to replace it with?

That is a real shame, it takes some brass balls to command that kind of money for crap like that.

Currently leaning towards a F-250 with the 7.3L V8; preferably with halogen headlights and incandescent taillights. The exact opposite of this truck.

And yet another new noise. This time while parked, but not every time; the video is from last night and it’s not present this morning. This example is while parked on grass with no brakes applied. Applying the brakes or putting it in gear made no difference. The noise was also unchanged before and after driving it.

This whole experience has made me curious about the sheer number of used GM EVs with under 10K miles on the market. I always assumed it was just city folk that didn’t drive a whole lot.

I'm sorry your Denali EV was a lemon. There's a thread on Reddit about a construction company saving a sh** ton of money by switching to EV trucks. They saved like $10k/year for each truck, maintenance included.

And people complain about vehicles being imported to the USA. If this is GM quality today they are just making it worse for themselves.
The last new GM vehicle I bought new was a gorgeous, black-on-black 1990 Corvette Z51 6 speed. loved it but I always wondered if there would be parts laying on the driveway after backing out... I could not afford the car at the time and sold it after 1 year. Took a beating but learned a valuable lesson. No more new cars until my house was paid off. I did buy a strippie Toyota 4wd PU, because ya ain't squat if ya ain't got a truck. It lasted about 450K miles that I know of.

I'd hope this was a one off, but that's hard to say. It would definitely sour me from trying to buy another from them for sure. We've had a few Ford products and one 2014 Edge we had made me sell my 2017 F150 I bought new along with the Edge and I've not bought a Ford since. I really planned to keep that truck 20 years, but I dumped it after 5 years because Ford didn't stand behind the Edge when we had 3 major brake failures. I may have actually still bought Fords if they took care of it.

I'm glad GM stepped up to buy yours back. It at least sounds like they're trying to do the right thing even if it may have taken some extra effort to get there. I wrote Ford corporate and they basically told me they stand behind their dealers and told me to pound sand. The problem is that the dealer wasn't denying it was a manufacturing defect. Ford just kept denying it when they tried to submit it for warranty claim. It cost me $3,100 to get it road worthy again and I sold it to Carvana. I hope it was truly fixed at that point, but I wanted to wipe my hands of it and not deal with a private sale.

Good news. Just got our written offer. It comes in about $7100 more than I had paid thanks to the $7500 tax credit. They also are offering to pay for the $4000+ in accessories that we purchased for the truck (paint protection film, floor mats, tonneau cover, etc.).

All in all, pretty painless. I’m very impressed with their process. No lawyer needed, no fuss, no hardball, no trying to wear me down. They are simply making me whole. The case agent made it clear, she said that GM feels bad about giving me a lemon and they want to retain my business in the future. She also was very understanding when I joked that there was going to be a cooling off period for me when it comes to GM trucks for a bit.
