Really a shame that your ownership experience with this new GM EV is going so poorly.
Sorry that you've had so much trouble after having spent so much money buying the thing.
This does not bode well for the future of GM.
Maybe so or maybe not.I mean it definitely sucks but for every bad one there are thousands of good ones…
I suspect part of the issue is the dealerships. The incentives aren't aligned. They want to make money on each interaction, so they're incentivized to drag things out or resort to the parts cannon. Any justification for them to bill the manufacturer. They also don't like EVs. I asked my local dealership for a software update and they tried to charge me. I'm within warranty and was already there to have a recall performed. I have a very intense dislike for the car dealership experience. Now, my local independent shop...those guys have been awesome. There's an old saying... If you have a good product experience, you will tell 10 of your friends. If you have a bad product experience, you will tell the world.
Step up GM. I'm sure this was not a chump change purchase.
I work at a new car dealership. Dealerships in no way want to drag things out. Any warranty issue has a very specific diagnosis process in place. HQ gets to approve warranty repairs based on the diag flow. And most times its, if this approved repair didn't work, then it escalates to the next level. This all takes time. Parts supply is the biggest challenge we face, with allocations on recalls, non-availability of parts, parts on BO, etc.I suspect part of the issue is the dealerships. The incentives aren't aligned. Another update. The dealer is still trying to fix the taillight issue and are waiting on parts. The repair is to replace the entire assembly. I asked the service writer for the cost if I were going out of pocket on it. Just for the assembly, $1140. Currently, they do not have an eta for the parts.
The truck has been off the road for 51 days total to date.
Don’t know. But this extra multi-week delay only reinforces our buyback case and decision to pursue buyback. I’ll be contacting our GM Concierge tomorrow for an update from their end. They can't pull the part off another vehicle?
Did you check the GM parts websites? I trust a dealership like a fat kid around cake.Don’t know. But this extra multi-week delay only reinforces our buyback case and decision to pursue buyback. I’ll be contacting our GM Concierge tomorrow for an update from their end.
I’m not paying for anything as it’s all under warranty. Once I get the service write up’s, I’ll probably cross check the parts numbers to website.Did you check the GM parts websites? I trust a dealership like a fat kid around cake.
That’s fantastic! I know 100% you wish you didn’t have to go through it. But at least now there’s light at the end of the tunnel and you know you will get your money back.Good news. After exactly 80 days in the shop, my GM buyback has been approved. We were told that we’d be handed off to the legal office in the next couple of weeks to finalize everything and that we should expect our cash back in 1-2 months.
Agreed. I’m hoping that this was truly just a lemon and not a greater GM trend. Now we have to figure out what to replace it with. That’s fantastic! Unbelievable story of everything that can go wrong. Unbelievable that GM would turn out a product with so many issues where it made it to the end user
Maybe one off production issues for a new product? Though your story is an example if everything that can go wrong.Agreed. I’m hoping that this was truly just a lemon and not a greater GM trend. Now we have to figure out what to replace it with.
It’s bittersweet. I’m glad to be getting out from underneath this truck but we were really liking the EV aspect of the truck. It made for an excellent around town towing vehicle for my wife’s horse trailer and because my electricity is so cheap overnight it was roughly the equivalent of getting 160-200MPG fuel cost-wise so it also doubled as a super cushy and capable commuter.
Sadly, Ford killed off the F-150 Lightening, the Rivian R1T is too expensive, and the Tesla Cyber Truck is too large and with less capability than what we need for the price (and it’s ugly!).
Currently tossing around the idea of the RAM REV when it comes out later this year; assuming the price is right.
Sad thing is that this was the third model year for the Sierra EV. The quality control on the line was just absolute garbage.Maybe one off production issues for a new product? Though your story is an example if everything that can go wrong.
I have a nephew who had the lemon law buy back his Ford Mustang EV when they first came out. Charging issues they just could not fix.
However he did proceed to get another or I am mixing him up with another nephew who later on when on to buy one and it was good. I think he has a Tesla too. I can't keep up with them..
In your case, gosh to buy another would be incredibly stressful wondering if it was a "one off" most likely not entirely.
