Cummins has many JV relationships with Chinese suppliers who have newer tooling, better processes (because Cummins taught them) and lower cost.
For example, I know of two Chinese suppliers in particular-- XiXia and Impro that get a lot of Cummins business. XiXia tends to make the vast majority of our exhaust manifolds because they have experience casting our special high moly silicon ductile iron (CES 41086).
Impro has made almost every injector clamp on a cummins engine for 30 years. They are a VERY good investment casting house and aside from a minor heat treat issue on some prototypes (which was resolved easily and quickly), I know of no issues with their parts in that time period. They are one of the many excellent suppliers that you just come to trust because you never hear about them much. Boring suppliers are the best kind.
