2026 Beijing Auto Show - on the bleeding edge

This is the EV sales for New Zealand last month. Small country, so the figures are low, so ignore that, but not insignificant for our fleet. We also import used vehicles, probably almost what are sold new. Tesla, Kia, Suzuki and Toyota are in there, the rest are Chinese.

Your point is accurate, the US automotive industry has fallen short. I wanted to prove you wrong, so I went to the local Ford, Chevy and Stelantis dealerships. I found no CARS at all. Just trucks and SUV's. All kidding aside, the US automotive industry still produces some quality.

I'd say my 2024 F150 5.0L is every bit as good as my previous 4 F150's. All were spectacularly reliable, capable and comfortable. All of them topped 200K miles without difficulty.

As I mentioned above the Bejing auto show had few products of interest. The range claims are absurd, as are the battery claims. And real world objective testing highlights 'reality'. A colorful LED display and leather interior does not make for a quality vehicle.
Believe me I have wanted to prove myself wrong for years. Having been in the car business over 50 years I have seen the best the US has to offer, when I started cars from the 50's and 60's were still common and some earlier than that, the US made some truly spectacular cars with a lot of variety, I am thankful I got to own and drive so many of them.

The Europeans and Japanese were driving cracker boxes and the Chinese were running rickshaws while the Indians were running tuc tucs.
We threw it away it would seem almost deliberately in the name of a agendas. Pickup trucks are all well and good but less people really need those than ev's, they always were a working vehicle, heavy duty and not overly expensive with very few toys. Today they are so expensive and at least around here you one person driving it and the bed looks like new. JMHO

Ugh. I have no problem with EV's and they will be the future at some point. But Thomas Edison built the US's electrical grid, we barely have enough capacity and electricity is stupid expensive.

My electric bill is already $200-300 per month and I religiously am always shutting everything electric off. And I have solar panels! If I had an EV or two my electric bill would be ridiculous. Modernize the grid and supply issue, make the cost of electricity reasonable and EV's will take off.

Oh and the whole EV charging infrastructure thing. It has come a long way, but until you can pull in to a random local charging station and "fill-up" in 15 minutes or less, people will have a hard time adopting.

If the stupid high electricity rates keep getting worse it would may make better financial sense to get a natural gas whole home generator and run my electricity off of that! Kidding....but maybe not!

Natural gas has been at a historic low and has been for sometime, excluding short-term market fluctuations, but in MA we still manage to make it stupid expensive. Years and years of zero infrastructure investment. We have more demand than the supply can handle.

Rant off.

Our first Chinese EV’s are scheduled to arrive in September into Canada. Leading the way will be Chinese built Teslas as their distribution network has been running for years.

Canada thought they were going to get something new and different when in fact they are going to get the same old crap only made in China, just wait till Barra announces China made GM crap is also coming in. Canada needs to nip that in the bud and quick. JMHO
