Exactly this. I have no problem with this, I'd much rather check the oil by pushing a button on the steering wheel than having to lift the hood, same with TPMS. So much easier than walking around with a tire gauge.

This is also great for rentals or borrowed cars.

Exactly. This is the equivalent of replacing the old tire gauge with a digital readout.

Beside, people make all kinds of mistakes with the dipstick. Not fully inserting it, checking oil level as soon as engine is turned off, checking on an incline, misreading the "wet" mark, etc.

Euro cars have been using the in pan oil level thing for many years. If it gets to the add mak a msg will pop up on the dash .

You can also check the oil level on the dash.

I still prefer a stick but since nobody opens the hood anyway why bother?

Hurricane has been out for 4 model years.
Only seen one torn down and/or replaced, (I work at a large Ram/Jeep dealership) for a broken valve spring at 500 miles. An early failure on an Enterprise Fleet Ram FWIW.
Should there have been an "/s" at the end of your comment or do you care to share your proof as backup?

sounds like win to me. in warranty you should follow the maintenance schedule.

Just as an FYI to those reading here, I have two cars in my garage right now that have both a conventional dipstick, and an electronic readout on the dash. Both are consistent between the dipstick and dash readout, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the accuracy of the digital readout. The cars are a BMW 650i and a Porsche Boxster.

For those bashing the hurricane, have you driven a vehicle powered by one? Fantastic motor, equivalent to a BMW B58 in my opinion, and I consider that one of if not the finest mass produced engines available today. I prefer a dipstick but the gauge is actually easier once you get used to it.

Seems odd, but it's not an entirely new concept. My 1947 Lincoln doesn't have a dipstick, it has a float gauge that pokes out of the top of the engine.

My BMW E 28s had both low oil and low coolant lights. The float switch for low coolant was a piece of junk, but 15$ every couple yrs was cheap compared to a meltdown.

Great cars! I had two of them back in the day. One got totaled and then bought a second. I really miss them but they could be a PITA with the early electronics and sensors, no question. Remember the brake “bomb”? Real pain in the ass. ;-) I really enjoyed doing valve adjustments (before I had two back surgeries). M30 and the M20 among most durable motors ever made.

Not really. The system doesn't know if the oil has or has not been changed
