It comes with the Toyota 2.5 Hybrid and eCVT. The CX-50 2.5 and 2.5 turbo sales are in the toilet and I feel this hybrid powertrain will scoop up 80% of the sales. You might see the regular 2.5 in the base trim only in the future.

CVT is a big turn off for me. But I have to say I don’t think the cx-50 sales are in the toilet because of the engines, they are in the toilet because the cx-50 is not an improved version of their best selling suv, the cx5.

I really liked the look of the cx-50.. but I drove it back to back with a couple other options and I didnt like it.
The rotary knob either.

That’s what I meant. As a whole the CX-50 isn’t selling. They have money on the hood plus .9% apr right now.

Imo it's a step backwards from the cx5. Mazda's trying to look almost luxury, then releases a model in a category that the Forester (and Subaru in general) already dominates.

I hope the hybrid comes to the cx5 though. It needs all the mpgs it can get.

Toyota is supply constrained and sells every RAV4 Hybrid they can make. Not sure what the play is here if this is cannibalizing Toyota sales.

I don’t believe sales of the CX-50 are in the toilet…up 145% in October over prior year, and 90% over 2023 YTD. September had a similar sales trend over prior year.
So if they sold 100 last October, so selling 245 this October means sells are up 145%. With Mazda throwing $2500 cash or 0% apr on these things, you would expect sales would be better than last year.

Not an expert at all, but my guess is that the incentives have the desired impact. Being a smaller, niche manufacturer means any incentives need to be extremely targeted.

Mazda sold 7,700 units of the CX-50 last month and 66,000 units for the first 10 months of the year.

To everyone comparing the 50 to the 5. Guys, the CX50 is not supposed to be a better CX5. It’s a competitor to Subaru and the idea that it is more off pavement capable, hence the suspension setup in the rear.
From what I’ve seen, it’s as capable, or more so, since it doesn’t have a CVT that overheats when you give it the beans.
It’s not a Jeep, but it is a better option than a Subaru if light off pavement excursions that require it to work a little harder are what you do while camping, hiking, kayaking, etc…..IMO only.
Sales seem fine around here in my area.

The cx50 is the same platform as the 3 and 30 which also has a torsen beam; which allowed the 3 to have AWD.
