Seeking oil recommendations for the new family ride. The vehicle has the same powertrain as a Grand Highlander Hybrid Max, which is a T24A-FTS with a single electric motor for materially improved performance (not efficiency).

I plan to change the oil and filter every 6 months, which should work out to about 2,500 mile intervals.

I do have a 10-year Lexus Extra Care Platinum warranty that requires keeping receipts for all maintenance parts. For the simplicity's sake, I plan to stay with an API licensed 0W-20 synthetic oil.

Thanks.

That's fair. Outside of the us these new turbo toyota engines can use thicker but if they require receipts then 0w-20 it is. I'd use m1 esp 0w-20 and Castrol edge ep 0w-20. Castrol ep is on sale and available for free shipping. Digital receipts save better than those ones that fade to nothing. I don't see why buying 5 jugs and 4 filters for four 6 quart oil changes at once would be an issue.

That Lex is gonna get lux care! 2500 mile services allows for any decent oil. Kirkland would do and might be better than some dealership's bulk oil? I use M1 on our 2 Lexi.

Enjoy your beautiful car!

Unfortunately, M1 ESP 0W-20 is only API licensed for SL and does not carry the donut.
I doubt the dealer will see mobil 1 and 0w-20 and think it's suspicious enough to check it given that there has been HM, EP, truck and suv, and other things after the Mobil 1. For the most part they are just gonna check to see 0w-20 and if there's a brand name on it especially Mobil 1 which if we're honest is like the Apple of the oil world it'll be fine.

Not helpful, but I would choose one of the Mobil 1 varieties (AFE, EP, or Hybrid) or Edge EP 0W-20. I think they are all suitable for the expected use and interval. I have used PP and PUP 0W-20 many times in cars over the years, and those have worked well too. Really aren’t many bad choices now.

The MB 229.71 approval carried by the Edge EP may be something, but I wonder if it would make any difference for this use case.

That’s a nice ride; hope you get many years of enjoyable service from it.

I’d stick to M1 EP/Hybrid or Edge Extended(the Mercedes approval is icing on the cake). I think keeping receipts and records is more important than what oil is used.

The T24A turbo hybrid is more of a parallel hybrid like the new iForce Max setup in the Tacoma/Tundra/Sequoia. The engine won’t shut down as much as a traditional parallel-split hybrid Toyota.

I think VRP would be hard to beat from the start. Will guarantee clean rings. Anyone else? Under $30 at Walmart. Rebate brings it down to $25.

Castrol Edge EP 0W-20 has peaked my interest recently for an API requirement. Holds some nice approvals as well. $25 at Wally.
I'm curious what about it puts it about other API approved options. The MB 229.71 approval? Doesn't seem as stringent as LL-04 or VW 504.

M1 Truck & SUV 0W-20.
OP, hard to beat an OVERKILL recommendation!
