2024 Honda Prologue EV Previewed

I wouldn't want to think I was buying a Honda and find out I'd basically bought another GM vehicle.
We don't know to what extent that is true. Is it just the battery high voltage system or does it pertain to other major sub assemblies?

On a side note, it looks like the old 00s Mazda CX-7 from the side.

How far is your daily commute that 200mi or so won't get it done?

My daily commute never exceeds 120 miles. But I can tell you that it is not at all unusual for me to do 500++ highway miles in a day's work. The last few weeks, I'm driving from Newburgh, NY to Portsmouth, NH and back.

Commuting from PA to NY is about 60 miles, then 252 miles to Port City Air in Portsmouth. EV's won't work for me, as I just don't have the time to waste. And while Port City Air has a number of chargers, they are too slow to get my back on my way home.

I’m really guesstimating my wife’s weekend use case with kids and family and her patience with the tech. We can easily drive 300 miles in a day when we visit our kids, with unpredictable stops. Yes charging can get worked in, but if it isn’t convenient to her plans or agenda, she’s not going to favor adjusting to the tech just for the sake of having it.

now if you read between the lines you’ll see where I’m being selfish. I’ve been hoping she might be interested, rather than going electric myself. I can’t justify it for how I use vehicles right now. And at the same time, I think she would love one in town, but haaate it when she travels alone.

note, we are late adopters, very much so. I am still absolutely pro EV.

Not really a good use case for an EV and that's ok. They're not for everyone.

What I hate is people who are a good case telling me that they're not, until their blue in the face. Misinformation abounds.

EV would probably just not be satisfying and would lead to strife, IMO, unless you have good, reliable 350kw chargers at a good spot on the commute to the kids. Otherwise? The new X1 m35i looks fun as hell in the smaller suv class.

The. Id not get an EV. It doesn't make sense for you on the 500mi days.

I can do a 439 mile trip in an identical time as my ice vehicle on either a ccs network or a supercharger network because I never just fill up and go, but always either use the head , get a drink, or snack, and check and reply to messages.

Most guy saying they "cant do this or that" wont actually plot out and walk it through with you using a common tool like ABRP.

They say they never stop, never use the head, and never eat - but they leave out walking their dogs/ having to fill up before they leave, and when they arrive before they go back home - where the EV charges at home and at the destination in many cases.

Cujets makes sense, but most guys just doesn't.

Still waiting to see the Honda and the GM cars - the rest of the "big boys" are pretty much here but these guys.

I dunno. I suppose there might be someone with a desire to drive straight through from Houston to Orlando like Lisa Nowak.

Dashboard is def funky with two screens with a gap. I was in India recently and drove Kia Seltos that had one long screen which didn't look out of place, was functional but was way overloaded with info and features (to my liking). I did like bird's view feature a lot thou in their tight and crazy traffic.
It looked something like this but with RH drive of course:

Honda FINALLY figured out their styling inside and outside. I really like the new CRV, Pilot and now this vehicle as far as looks.

I'm on the road long enough to need to gas up during my travels maybe once or twice a year. I wouldn't go EV if I needed to charge on the road more than a few times a year.

That's one of the weird things. For those needs, it might make more sense to just rent a car. Especially since most rentals have unlimited mileage.

I get that there are some speciality applications like towing a trailer where it might be difficult to find a rental.

us plebes would really appreciate an affordable version with reasonable ICE-like acceleration numbers and decent range. my house doesn’t need 3.2 second 0-60. We do need range.
Agree other than chest pounding bragging about HP and Acceleration times it will be a while before practical everyday stuff comes along after all “Sizzle” sells and the more sizzle is more profit
I just don’t know if unlike gasoline a large EV motor is more inefficient than a small EV motor

Nice to see Honda getting into the EV market. But a partnership with GM ?

Hondas used to have an excellent reputation but I understand they have slipped quite a bit in recent years, And they should be embarrassed about their styling which is some of the worst I have seen in the last 40 years. This EV isn't particularly hideous but it's pretty boring and generic too.

Why couldn't they have built their own EV from the ground up ? Oh.... that takes a LOT of capital. I guess they are yet again another company that wishes they got serious about building an EV about 6 years ago. Playing catch up is why we see cars like this one.

Saves honda billions,

It will basically run on the blazer equinox platform which is still an absolute unknown.

They have built an all electric, although "from the ground up" is another matter. There was the Clarity Electric. It was based off of an existing platform (for fuel cell electric) and had a very limited range with a relatively small battery. A neighbor of mine had one, and had to return it after the lease was over since it was never sold. I believe the lease ($899 down and $199/month for 36 months) was not designed to make Honda money. It was probably to get real world experience with EV use.

The GM/Honda EV partnership will extend beyond the Prolouge and ZDX. There is an all-new “affordable” joint platform coming with next-gen Ultium cells.

Essentially the new Bolt. Trax EV? Trailblazer EV? Fit EV? HR-V? CR-V EV?

“Our plans include a new all-electric product for North America positioned at a price point lower than the upcoming Chevrolet Equinox EV, building on the 2 million units of EV capacity the company plans to install by the end of 2025.”

2027 is too far out though. Needs to be 2025.
