Hello,

I have a 2023 GX 460. I started running M1 EP 5w-30 three oil changes ago. USING A ROYAL PURPLE 20-968 filter.

This run was changed and had an 1800 mile trip over 8 days consisting of mountain, off-road/ fire trails and interstate. The remaining mileage was short trips.

The short trips consist of:
- 2 minute warm-up time each morning, a 5 mile drive to work with a runtime of about 11 to 12 minutes.
- A two minute warm-up time each afternoon, with roughly an 8 mile ride home, taking the long way with a runtime of about 15 to 18 minutes.
- some miscellaneous trips around town, with an occasional interstate drive of about 20 to 30 minutes

Not sure how to fully interpret the results. The fuel dilution I think is a little bit high? I’ve compared it to the other vehicles that I have done in the past using Blackstone labs and those were much lower.

Any input/comments are appreciated.

Why the 2 minutes for running the engine? remote start to cool the interior down a bit?

9.7 cst is only -4.5% from the 10.15 mobil's website says and 1.2% isn't anything to be concerned about. Running EP is a bit of a waste imo at such short intervals but do as you please. If it was mine I'd run supertech full syn 5w-30 for 3-4k miles or something like m1 ESP 0/5w-30 for more.

That is not enough mileage to get conclusive results, and your usage is really not heavy-duty by any means.
Report looks good for what it is, but next time do it at 5k.
As for fuel dilution, how long was the engine running before you took a sample? Also, why warm up time? Get that oil pressure and move slowly for the first few miles. Start the car, put on your seat belt, turn on radio, and go. I do that at -30, let alone in normal temperature and I have always had below average wear numbers in any car I did UOA. So, your fuel dilution might be coming from there, as you don't drive enough after evaporating gas. Toyota engines of those generations are notorious when it comes to warm up. So idling too long and then doing short distances might affect fuel dilution. Forget that practice!

Yes, to cool the interior down as it is boiling hot in the afternoon.

I run a short interval as 5000 miles may take me 7-8 months; it would have a lot of short trips, in town driving, extended idling stuck in traffic, etc. In other words, the oil would have a good number of hours on it.

No need for the warm up time. I have several thousand miles of heavy towing and my GX UOAs look stellar. I've shared a few here. Enjoy the best vehicle ever made.

Had no idea regarding the fuel dilution issue. I'll cut that out moving forward.

Doing a 5k oil change will take quite some time. For example, the remaining 831 miles on this oil change took roughly 4 months.

Would a 5k oil change have too many hours on the oil?

For example....The vehicles at work (Explorers, F-150's, etc)...fleet runs 10w-30 conventional in everything @ a 7500 mile interval. My work vehicle can have 200-300 hours of run time with a majority of that being idle hours. The vehicles are sludge buckets to say the least. Lots of issues with the turbo's, lifters sticking, etc. A number of causes such as the oil weight, hours on the oil, etc.

Thank you all for your replies.

Excellent. I will certainly change my habits. It was essentially for an interior cool-down / warm up. BUT, if it is causing a fuel dilution issue, I don't need that.

One other question, to get the dilution down a bit, what is a target oil temperature / run time? I monitor the oil temp at times and typically get to around 165-175 on my trips during the week to work. Interstate driving it get into the 180's.

Assuming that OBDLink is accurately obtaining data......

With Mobil1 5W30 one year interval is not an issue. Those V8 are very easy on oil.
Conventional oils and turbo’s don’t mix. Switch those fleet vehicles if you can to Rotella T6, Mobil1 Delvac if diesel.

I don't believe the GX460 has an engine oil temp sensor you may be reading a calculated value.

OP run the oil for longer, no reason to dump the sump so early with quality oil. Go longer and do another UOA.

I'm running 0W30 ESP in mine.

There's nothing wrong with running an engine for a couple minutes for comfort and I wouldn't stop doing that. Besides the viscosity only dropped 4.4% and it's not like we have to think about oxidative thickening interfering with that at under 3K miles. Just get something like super tech or Kirkland synthetic 5w-30 and change every 3k.
