  • I drive this very hard on track lol, I drove super hard on a 40C day and saw oil temp at 142C for 5 minutes
Currently on Amsoil SS 5w30 to see if there is any benefit in spending more money. I will also have a report on that with 2 track days come oil change time.

I wouldn't stretch it any more than you are now. The lower viscosity and flash point alone would turn me off. Regardless of the 1.3% being within tolerance, you are only 40* from that oil's flash point. I don't think you'll do much better with any oil. maybe try HPL.

I do like that I can get PPE 5w40 for $39.99 CAD. I am not too versed with the information I was given by blackstone. But I did read my oil temp hit 142C on a 40C track day. Do you think that might be why the oil is so thin?

TBN, TAN and oxidation would be helpful. While the wear is low, the oil is now a 30 grade. Thanks for posting. (y)

The fuel dilution is almost certainly closer to 4% based on the 360 flashpoint and the viscosity drop. There have been enough people sending samples to BS and another lab that actually tests fuel% by gas chromatography and BS's estimate is typically 2-3x lower than actual. Otherwise, it looks good!

I don't believe the temp itself caused it. I believe it's the fuel dilution. Not much you can do with that since it is direct injected. Nevertheless, the oil is close to being done IMHO.

Blackstone uses the D92 flashpoint measurement. PP 5W-40 has a D92 flashpoint of 455°F, so it's dropped by around 95°F. There's quite a lot of fuel in that oil, I'd guess 4-5%.

Your sample of PPE held up better in viscosity than mine (10.97 cst@100) which ran about the same mileage. However, mine only had <.5% fuel contamination. In other words, I don't think your oil sheared or was destroyed by the heat. It is still pretty close to spec. You would see more wear if it was not doing its job anymore. Overall, you have an excellent report. I'd probably change it every 5K with the cheap Cambodian Tire pricing.

Did you take the sample from a hot engine?
