2022 Tundra Crew Max

True-But I can tell you my 5.3 in my Silverado will pull my 5,000 foot trailer up 8,000 foot passes (on a regular basis BTW-based on where I live) in the summer with no issues. Yes-it revs like crazy in lower gears but is built to do so. I pull at 65mph on a level highway at 2,000 rpm to get 12mpg. Anything more than that speed and gas mpg further declines. Based on what I have read the Ford 3.5 doesn't do much better under the same level highway situation.

They all all return "about" the same on the straight level pull with the same load because it take X amount of energy to sustain say 250 LB FT.
I wouldnt expect any gas truck to significantly do better than another providing they are all geared " about" the same.

If Im towing and I need the performance like an uphill 2 lane pass - I'm ready to sacrifice the MPG for that performance.
Its going to take more fuel to give you 479 Lb Ft than it will 410, and at that moment I'm ready to spend it so
The ford and toyota will always be able to consume more if you ask them too.

The turbo trucks give you this where the NA trucks are simply out of wind.

That thing is as ugly as the new Maverick. If they had it in manual I might consider but they don’t unfortunately.

Consider one in what, 20 years or so? Toyota (or Ford) isn't too worried about what a guy thinks who's fleet looks like the inventory at a buy here/pay here lot. :ROFLMAO:

The giant grill is to shed heat. They have to balance cooling with appearance with mpg killing drag.

Nothing new under the sun...

Closest thing I've seen to that lately is the trendy burnt orange Ford and a couple others use. Not thinking you're going to see a match anytime soon. 😁

Have you seen VW's habanero orange??? 😍

Nope, my 2020 will be with me for awhile as she only has 23k miles and ~$2500 in sound/suspension upgrades. But if I was looking then the 2022 would be high on my list.

I would definitely try to get a 6.5' bed if you can. One thing a car salesman told me once is that woman are more picky when it comes to the color and options on a new vehicle while guys aren't as picky because they want what is on the lot today. The 6.5' bed will make the truck easier to sale for a better price down the road because most Tundras will be the 5.5' bed.
No kidding. I curse my Sierras 6.5 ‘ box every time I haul something long in the back. I could never bring myself to go shorter .

I'd buy it......... I had the hemi orange C. RT in 2009

I went looking at a dealer that supposedly had 3, but none to be found. However, the few new Toyotas in stock all had a $2,000 mark-up.

I'm really surprised you found one with a discount these days.

Is this true? I recall watching a TFL video where they took same trailer up Ike behind a Pentastar and a Hemi, and both got 4.7mpg. IIRC this was brought up then too, but I think we all disregarded it—just too odd.

FWIW, quick run of the numbers shows 4.7mpg = 50L per 100km. Which is a nice round number in metric, so that makes me wonder if it’s possibly true. Perhaps everything in the ECU is done in metric, including this bit of conditional checking.
I cant prove it but it’s extremely odd that anything from a 300 hp Pentastar to a 707hp TRX all end up at the exact same mpg.

But yeah, i think most of the ECM stuff is done in metric these days. It certainly is in my Ecoboost ECM. It uses Newton-meters for torque for sure. My liberty CRD was the same. N-m for torque, millibars for pressure, kelvin for temperature.
