Newb here. I figured I'd be the guinea pig and I went and had a flush done (left pan/filters on) at Midas with Maxlife ATF. The hooked the flush machine up to the cooler lines. It took 10.25 quarts. Gold color out, red color in.

Results: for the past 3 weeks since I had it done, the transmission acts like a normal transmission. Normal, smooth but positive shifts. No more erratic shifting or trouble finding gears.

Midas database shows Maxlife meets the parent spec of this transmission, which is mb 236.17, but not Matic-P.

So far so good

Thanks for putting some money into it for an expirament. The maxlife sheet does say 236.17 so it should have worked. Still it's odd to think that this fluid can be used in old 4 speeds to 9 speeds and possibly a ford/gm and maybe a honda or toyota 10 speed even though it doesn't list any of them as an application.

It's interesting that with some of the Nissan Matic-P replacements, notably BG 3153 and LiquiMoly Top Tec 1800R, their viscosity is nearly identical to the MaxLife numbers. Just goes to show you that these car mfgs are pulling the wool over the consumers face.
