This was my first time cleaning the engine bay on my wife’s Jetta. We have owned it 1 year and 6 months (since new) so it had a fair amount of dust / dirt on it. I like to clean our engine bays periodically as it is easier to keep them clean / maintained vs waiting 5+ years where you have to physically scrub everything down to achieve results.

I simply sprayed down the (cool) engine bay with a mix of Chemical Guys car wash soap and water, then rinsed with the shower setting on the hose followed by a thorough drying with my electric leaf blower. Results were good I think.

I did cover the turbo, fuel panel, ecm and alternator before spraying down.

That cap doesn't fit my 2019 1.4T... too much clutter around the refill area and that cap is too bulky. I ended up keeping the stock cap, and now have another internet overhyped paper weight. Hoping that I can find a neighbor or colleague with a VW that might want it.

I run mine thru the manual car wash bay, pop hood and cover nothing, soap it all up, and blast it all clean.

How often do you use washer fluid in FL? I don't think I've ever used mine in AZ.

I go thru a gallon a month easily. I use it all the time. We have bugs, animals, and people, that go splat on the windshields. Need to build a MadMax type vehicle for commuting. Graded roads will cover a car in mud/dust completely around here too. I avoid graded roads but some are just engaging to drive on.

I've used the Gunk engine cleaner in the trigger spray. Works fantastic and leaves the black plastic black which is something difficult to find in an engine cleaner.

Good to know. I don’t want to discolor anything or make it shiny. Which is why I generally use a very mild product.

I use the Chemical Guys orange candy scented carwash soap to scrub my sneakers with. Works fantastic and doesn't leave a film behind to attract dirt. Chemical Guys green scrub brush too.
