2021 jetta engine failure 1.4t

Good luck with this. It’s doesn’t sound like a normal or expected event at that mileage. Please let us know what happened. I for one am very interested. Thanks for the post.

Are you going to do the work yourself? Start by dropping the oil pan and see if you find something like this in the bottom of the pickup tube..

vw 1.4 silicone.webp

Yes. Rarely an issue when OE applied but once some monkey has been in the engine all bets are off, it is common to find it lathered on.
If a 2-3mm bead is required to do the job properly then a full tube must be better lathered on the oil pan.
A poster on here has a VW TDI van he bought with oil pressure problems and yep RTV in the pickup tube. He did a nice job sorting it out.

I am interested in finding out what the issue is. I have a VW 1.4 from 2017 with a littl e less mileage. Mine specifies the VW 502-505 oils, and I have uses Liqui Moly Molygen in 0W40. I note that they have moved to a 0W20 recommendation, but also that they have specified their VW 508 cert. I note that not all Mobil 1 (?) or Mobil oils have it, although from doing an Audi Q5 a few weeks ago, note that the ESP Euro does. I wish the best, but can't help but wonder what the oil change history is. I think VW asks for 10 plus K miles OCI, so if that was missed a few times, it could be the issue. Good luck.

500 ft on no oil pressure does not mean the oil is toast. There may not be any damage aside from the failure, which points to a bad pickup or pump drive.

Squirt some oil in the cylinders, plugs out, so you can crank it a little

Pull the drain pan and look for debris in the pickup

I’m not familiar with the motor, but I’ve personally known vehicles to seize from no oil, get refilled and run another 10 years. You caught this much sooner as you were paying attention.

you can hear a bearing spinning in the bottom end. sadly shes toast. im still on the fence as to drop a used engine in it or send it down the road.

ive had oil pump and other failures before that have caught in time with no damage done but my luck ran out this time lol

If this car is in okay cosmetic condition, I can't imagine not locating a used engine and running it out. It just isn't old enough or high mileage enough to go any other way IMO.

Daughter has a 2017 Jetta Se with a 1.4 and 112k miles on 9-10k oil changes with Mobil 1 Euro spec. Purchased it CPO at 6 months with 6k miles on it

Check on the price of a new long engine from VW before you make a decision. Without a vin number I see 4 options. 2 of em are around 3000 US dollars for brand new not reman. The other 2 options are frigging expensive. If you would like to send me a vin I can look it up for you

Very nice, although I am not down with 10k OCI !
it doesn't burn oil so I am pretty sure i didn't hurt the engine. In my experience once a car hit 150k the repairs don't make sense for me to keep it

Does NHTSA/DOT/fill-in-the-alphabet-agency allow low oil shutdown on passenger vehicles? Seems like it'd be a greater safety risk (to life) than just risking running low on oil.

I only ask because that was mentioned earlier in the thread.
