Valvoline came out with a low viscosity CVT fluid this year. There must a difference or need for such formulation rather than just marketing.

CVT seems more fragile than an engine , so viscosity must have an influence for performance and longevity

The response question to you then is why did they come out with NS-3 with a lower operating viscosity IF it does not help with fuel economy and IF 0.7 does not assist or matter at all with higher fuel economy???

It has to matter on that level one would think. . Thus the new fluid came out... With a lower operating viscosity.

Just like the motor oil side of things.... 3.5 HTHS is quite frowned upon now for a 30 grade operation viscosity. But 3.0 to 3.2 is where it is at... Not a huge difference but it must matter due to incremental fuel savings... Or manufacturers back specing older vehicles on 5w20 or 0w20 that were previously 5w30. A 2.7 HTHS is not a whole bunch different than a 3.1. However it must matter in terms of fuel economy.

Even car batteries are down sized... The generation of Nissan Altima before mine had a group 24f battery... My generation of Nissan Altima group 35... Which coincidentally weighs 37 pounds for a East Penn 735fmf battery. A comparable group 24f weighs... 44 pounds for a East Penn 724fmf battery... That 7 pounds matters to somebody. Even alternator charging patterns are being dictated by fuel economy... Only charging when one is off the gas pedal completely... Any wonder why batteries are not going to last as long ?? That is not helpful to battery life either. But the tiny amount of fuel saved must matter to someone.
In summation... Every little tiny bit must matter to those making these vehicles. Even something has small as 0.7 cSt.

I agree, it doesn't look so good for only 22k miles. But as they say, color doesn't matter.......... I would have thought it would have been cleaner though.

Just discovered the fact these late model Pathfinder CVTs, maybe the Murano and other Nissan VQ35 powered CVTs too for all I know have a relatively easy to service external filter.

The guy in the video does have a bunch of wrong info on things like fluid capacity, how you can fill the transmission, OEM fluid color, etc, but I found the fact that these CVTs have a filter cartridge to be a great feature. https://youtu.be/LA03r5gNzFU

Now me being me.. I gotta know/find the part number for that filter!
