2019 Malibu turbo noise cold start

My malibu makes a ticking noise for about 10-20 seconds on cold mornings, seems to coming from the turbo.

Google AI says this is from the turbine in the turbo not getting oil right away due so viscous oil in 20ish degree weather.

Does this sound legit?

I don't think the Google AI is getting it right. If it sounds like its coming from the Turbo for 10-20 sec, the first thing that come to mind is that its the Cat warm up cycle. Next, I would look at the wastegate since it is typically open for the cat warm up cycle, maybe something is loose and rattling around.

I should state it isn't a rattle. It's a slow tick - tick - tick

And it only occurs in 20 something and below weather.

yes my bet aswell, that's what the ecu is trying to do in the first 20-30 seconds in any case.

Sure it's not the direct injection fuel injectors making the noise which is normal?

My neighbors Equinox does it too. Still running fine with no issues…..

You'd hear that at any time the engine is running, and it wouldn't be coming from the turbo area.

My wife's 2018 Equinox with the 1.5 occasionally makes that sound and I'm pretty sure it's from the active grill shutters closing.
