2019 Malibu transmission problem

Is the warranty administered by a third party? The dealer might not be as motivated to decline the repair if it's a third party who is actually paying for the work.

No, it's an in house warranty they include with all of their certified used cars and new cars.

Glad I decided to stop driving the car and get a tow to the dealership, I fired up the car to move it into position for the tow truck and almost immediately the car shuddered quite a bit for a few seconds.

Dealership said they would push it inside and gave me a "head nod" when I told them the shuddering conditions sounds like a torque converter.

They said they would run diagnostics and and call the warranty company and then call me back with the results. Guess I worried myself sick for nothing. Turns out warranty is a third party outift.

That's why I'm worried. They quoted me $1800 to fix one axles worth of warped rotors. This included new calipers.

I took it elsewhere and they fixed both axles for 400 including labor without any new calipers.
There aren’t many details. What kind of dealers? New car OE dealers or a used car lot/Carmax type place? How many miles? What are the terms of the warranty?

You bought a used car. You should reasonably expect longevity, but a used car is always a risk. Unfortunately this may be a scenario where you got bit.

Why did you pick the dealer you did? Not a poke at your decision, just curious? I suspect that some dealers have more of a profit center with new cars, or used cars, or service. The prices of the other two may be higher relative. It seems that shopping around would be a good idea, seems you are. But hopefully there is a lower cost option if you can’t get warranty.

Did the car come with service records?

It's a gm dealer. I chose this dealer because they were very low pressure sales tactics and didn't treat me like a nuisance like one dealer did and didn't bait and switch me like another dealer did.

Looks like this Stealership knows how to do the dance. They basically called the dealership I went to Thursday liars, stating the fluid is fine, not burnt, no metal shavings, the slippage I'm experiencing is normal for a CVT etc etc.

If it acts up again I'm going to have to get a third opnion and consult a lawyer,

Looks like I over-reacted. The dealership I went to last week DID lie. They just wanted $6400 from me. They could've honored the warranty from the dealer I purchased the car from and tried to get me to agree to the $6400 anyways. Car drives fine, no shudder, slipping or anything of the sort now. I feel bad now.

Que the irrational fear of dealerships.

Get that oil out of the transmission first. Mobil One LV is the fix for that tranny unless it is really broken. They have a drain plug on the bottom and a filler cap on top. Catch and measure how much came out or find the level hole by the CV joint. It is easier than changing the motor oil on new GM’s. There was a memo going around to use Mobil one LV tranny fluid.

There's nothing wrong with the fluid. If I had as much metal in my fluid as the 1st dealership said I did not only would my transmission run like a pile of crud but it would overheat very easy to. Yesterday I took my car out on the interstate and dogged it as much as I could and the transmission operated smoothly. Icing on the cake is after about 5 minutes of scrolling on the 1st dealerships google review page I found 3 reviews saying the service writer I dealt with ripped said person off. Mainly doing work but not fixing the issue after paying thousands of dollars.

I had a transmission shop drop cat litter oil absorbent in my pan and they told me I needed a transmission because it was falling apart. When I refused a rebuild, the service writer told me that they could not change the fluid and that they were going to dump that crap back into my transmission. Against their rules, I snuck into the shop and politely asked the mechanic not to dump that cat litter into my transmission. He felt bad and he said “I just work here and do as I’m told” as he scraped that cat litter into the waste for me. I was just a poor college kid wanting fresh tranny fluid for the long drive home on Spring break. I learned to do all of my own maintenance after that.
