2018 Tacoma TRD 3.5L #2 Cylinder Bad - Repair costs/options?

10K OCI's look great in the brochure, coming off as a low maintenance vehicle. And if you're the typical owner that trades in after 50-100K miles, no problem, but 10K OCI's will bite you if you keep the car long term.

Yep. No way I would consider 10K mile oil changes.

He’s neither wrong nor right on 10k OCI. But I would never subject a truck, especially 4WD with or without mods, to 10k OCI. Unless it is 2WD fleet vehicle being driven gently a lot, 10k OCI is meant for appliance boxes vehicle and not trucks, Suv, or large sedans. The oil capacity is way too small to go that long and expect 300k life out of engines.
6+ quarts on this modest displacement V-6 is too small for a 10,000 mile oil change?

What V -6 engines have substantially higher oil capacity than this one?

Would a set of spark plugs help? And why buy a new engine if the current one still run? Dealership will sell you unneeded services and do imaginarily inspection to upscale craps.
Spark plugs will not fix a low compression issue.

This is one of the effects of 10k oil change intervals. Rings stick and walls are scored. Crazy how many Toyota techs state to change oil at 5k but so many buy into the dealer BS.

To be fair, carbon buildup on piston rings can be caused by a variety of conditions - sometimes it is just due to how a vehicle was operated.

Completely agree with that as well. There are MANY variables that are not even related to the oil system. We are also talking about the Toyota 3.5L. Tons of data out there about ring seizures and long oil change intervals.

IMO, oil is cheap, changing it is easy. It’s one of the best things you can do to give your engine a chance for long life. It’s been proven over and over that long OCIs can lead to stuck rings as well as a slew of other issues.

I honestly don't understand the decision to do a 10,000 mike oil change interval.
The risk is high and the return is low. The 5 quart jugs of full synthetic at Walmart are so cheap, but the cost to replace an engine can be $10,000+ dollars.
