We did an extended 2-day test drive of a 2017 EcoDiesel last week and could not believe the fuel mileage. It has lots of torque and almost no turbo lag, so it drives surprisingly well for a diesel, it is also insanely quiet.

They happened to have a new one on the lot that checked all the boxes for my wife (mainly, as much black as possible and leather with 4x4) and with the clearing out of the 2018's, we saved 34% off of MSRP, so we got a new truck for the price of a used one.

A few initial snaps (and my wife looking like she's having some sort of verbal dispute.. she's not), sorry for the poor quality.

Very nice, OverKill.

Curious, did you check out JJ Stewart while you were shopping around? I drive past there last weekend on my to my trailer in Marmora and could believe the inventory they had on the lot.

Nice truck, I hope the transmissions and electrical systems are better than they have been for the last 10 years or so... Dodge has always made a sharp looking truck with a great engine, but everything that surrounds it has been garbage...

Congrats! A friend of mine has a 2014 EcoDiesel. I know you're an SRT guy too, he actually traded his 06 SRT Jeep for it. Its obviously slower than that was but he was tired of getting 12-14mpg. He averages 23-24 commuting all backroads and on several longer trips hes usually high 20s and has hit 30 hand calculated. Of course I'm jealous with my 18.5mpg turd.

Whats the word out there now about engine reliability with these? I know early on they had some issues and RAM updated the oil recommendation from 5w30 to 5w40. My buddy was sure to get the super extended warranty in case of any issues.

Looks nice! Didn't realize that the diesel had dual exhaust.

I was poking around the forums the other day and it sure seemed like the diesel was having some issues. I'm guessing that all has been worked out now?

Do your other vehicles have the rotary shifter? I've looked at that and I'm just not convinced I could (easily) adapt to that. But if your other vehicles have that already, then no biggie.

Black is such a beautiful color on cars, the day it's detailed. I don't have the patience to deal with it, otherwise I'd love a black car.

Do you think you'll get a tonneau cover so groceries and other stuff doesn't fly out/around?

It has a huge back seat, the groceries can probably just go in there. We'll see what my wife decides, she did make mention of it briefly yesterday.

In my truck I wound up with some large plastic tubs/totes that I can stack into each other. When I need to move smaller items, the totes get pulled forward and items go into them.

For me, the tonneau cover got used largely to keep snow out of the bed. Some of them are pretty cheap these days, although you do get what you pay for.

Awesome truck, congrats!!

How many km did the Durango have and why did you get rid of it?

Durango had 52,000Km on it. My wife had originally wanted to upgrade to one that was all black (it had chrome) and with the 5.7L but eventually let go of that idea.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Durango. Our main gripe, and it was a decision we made when we purchased it as a Chrysler demo, was that it didn't have the tow package. They couldn't get one that had that at the time so we settled.

My wife brought up the idea of the truck of the beginning of the week last week and I didn't think it was an awful idea. We then picked up a dirt bike for my middle child's birthday and in trying to find a way to get it home ended up doing the extended test drive I mentioned which pretty much sealed the deal.

EPA is 20Mpg in town (from the US site) and 27Mpg highway. We were driving highway 7, which has an 80km/h speed limit and easily got 30 out of it, which is nuts for a truck and better than we have ever got with the Durango.

Stewart always has a TON of inventory, which is wild given their location.

I am friends with the owner of my dealer, so I get at cost pricing as well as some other perks. Due to this, I don't make it a habit to shop anywhere else out of courtesy for that relationship.

We've had no issues with the electrical on our fleet trucks, so I'm not concerned about that at this point. The transmission is the excellent ZF 8HP70, so not a worry there either

My understanding of them is since the oil recommendation change (they now spec a CJ-4 HDEO 5w-40) that things have been fine. The Euro 5w30 was likely not being followed IMHO. I'm going to be feeding it Delvac 1 5w-40.

The earlier ones were problematic, which is why we did a bit of research before jumping on this. That appears to have been rectified at this juncture.

The Durango had the rotary shifter, the Jeep doesn't. So it isn't going to be weird for us I don't believe, as just the location of the shifter has changed (Durango is in the centre console).

Congrats!
Many KM of happy use!

How is the quality and availability of diesel in the areas you do your vacations/travels?
What did the kids say? (beside "See Ya!" while jumping on the bike and taking off)

Diesel is readily available. A trip to the cottage is a couple of hours, so you just fill up before you go.

Looks like a sharp ride. I won't do black paint ever again

But they do look amazing freshly detailed.
I have a couple coworkers with the 1500 crew cab ram and they both love it.

What I find interesting is the gas/diesel price difference vs here.

Currently 87 $2.45
diesel $3.19

looks like they are nearly the same price up there?
That makes it an even better buy.

Of course the gas prices here can swing 30-50cents in a week.. diesel never goes more than 10cents.

The Expedition was of course all black and my wife just loved it. The Durango was black, so we are going into this with both eyes open, LOL

But yeah, it is a B**** to keep clean.

Diesel is within 2 cents of Regular 87 at the moment as you noted.

She is a beauty and at a great price. They are nice Trucks. Road test and review requested. I looked at them when I bought my 2015 F150.

Fuel price go up and down which makes it foolish to use the price of diesel a subject for engine selection. My wife wanted a diesel engine and a manual trans and fell in love with her F250 she uses it for towing her and the daughters horsies around. The truck has been getting over 14 mpgs towing a heavy load.People I talk to with never diesel trucks are getting even better mpgs.

Yeah, it was the fuel mileage, not the price of diesel, that sold us on it.
