Yeah that just got announced. That will be sweet if that engine holds up. The aluminum body, the 10 speed, 3.0L diesel, i can't think of anything else a car geek could ask for. I bet they can hit 30 mpg easily.

Looks like the gas engines are being upgraded as well, incase the diesel flops.

It may be awesome, but is it going to cost $5k more than a gas job, cost twice as much for a dealer oil change and have the not unheard of emissions repair that cost a few thousand bucks outta warranty?

Yeah. No way it will be cost effective vs gas. I'd avoid a modern diesel like the plague unless it was absolutely necessary. Just too much stuff to go wrong.

I would expect at least $5k more for the diesel. The extra cost will likely not be worth it. For example, the Nissan XD 5.0 diesel vs the 5.6 gas, only a 10% real world fuel economy improvement. (per TFL Truck's mileage testing) 10% improvement is not worth the modern diesel drama. But i love the theory of a light diesel half ton that doesn't have an italian grenade under the hood.

Still figuring out why I would want a Diesel when the EB 2.7 and 3.5 exist.

Regular unleaded here in PA $2.599
Diesel $2.99
Then you have the additional maintenance and any MPG is offset.

And the EB will feel better in day to day driving, have more power and tow more.

So why would I want a Diesel?

10 speed trans? The thing will be hunting so bad and changing gears so often that any fuel saving garnered by lower RPM over a comparable 6speed would be negated by the extra heat produced and unnecessary shifting up and down to maintain the supposed efficiency at low RPM's....

Give me a stout 5/6 speed over a new and unproven, overly complex, 10 any day...

I dono. Those that have driven the 10 speed say it's better and shifts less than the outgoing 6 speed behind the Ecoboost. Seems to be able to better match power needs than the 6 speed where the sweet spot was between gears.

Time will tell as it's going to be in a lot of stuff - F-series, Mustang, Camaro, and GM trucks. Some of the biggest selling vehicles in America.

This. I bought a gas truck this year for $6k. Same year w/duramax would have been 12 to 18K. Diesel fuel costs at least 10% more here. All for a difference of 3-4 MPG at best. Cost to fix? Of course the LS V8 is cheap to fix and the diesels are not. If i go to start it on a zero degree day i just turn that key and it runs smooth. It doesn't have to run glow plugs or heating grids and then run rough till it warms up.

I love diesels but they are way over valued in the used market and too "EPA" in the new market. Maybe this new powerstroke V6 will be really solid and not have any emissions or EGR type problems. I will let everyone else test it for a few years while i save up a lot of dollar bills.
