I purchased a Fram Ultra air filter for the 3.6 Outback and unlike me; I forgot just how long I left in in there. I checked it at my recent oil change and it was time! Fram says good for 40k. This one went 52k. Luckily my environment isn't as harsh as some of the other members here. Figured worth a post of a few pics.

Not terrible & that is quite some mileage on that. You can get some reminder stickers for free at Orielly's auto if you ask nicely.

Looks good! I run air filters for 80-100k, with no problem. An air box restriction gauge is the way to tell, but I’ve settled on this and it works for me.

I’m boring and replace every 12,000 miles. Air filters are adorable and once a year replacement are simple to remember.
Erm… “adorable”?

12k is quite frequent and if you live in an area with very fine dust, you’re likely actually increasing the amount of dirt your engine is ingesting.

I have left our Outback one go for quite a while too, as the Focus has a lifetime filter, so I got out of the habit of changing them.
Our Outback has a charcoal filter after the air filter to prevent fuel fumes from coming out after you shut it down, which is probably a decent air filter for a few k miles, if the regular filter gets torn.

Haha.

Haha. Meant to write “affordable”.

I live on a gravel road, 20% of all driving is on dirt. Filters are cheap, no big deal for me.
