I did my first at 55,000 miles or so and five years at the time. It's a GM car so it's claimed to be "lifetime" [ marketing BS IMHO ]. I will do it again at 100,000 miles whenever that happens. I am only at 78,000 today.
Personally, BurntMusic, I don't think any harm will be done if you do it now and then at 80 or 100,000.
The two new cars I have purchased and a rebuilt engine I had put in got extremely early first oil changes as well as other new fluids.
It sounds like foolish extra expense, but I don't buy them to sell or trade them every few years. Objective is long term ownership and useful life.
