My wife's 2017 Forester has an oil change scheduled at the dealer in 2.5 weeks. She's at 6500 miles and will be at least 7700 to 8000 when the oil change arrives. I changed it with Kirkland 0w20 in early June. It had a decent amount of town driving over the summer (1500 miles or so) and the last 3 months has been 70 miles, round-trip, commute daily, so basically all "easy" miles since August.

If I had an excuse to buy a new car, I might take it up with her. I want a minivan. She laughs at me and says she won't drive a minivan. I guess I have no shame. Or I'm a huge loser. I'm not certain. I'll schedule therapy to find out.

So, anyway, will the engine blowup and we'll end up with an Ascent even though I want a minivan (the couch isn't the worst place to sleep if I REALLY want my minivan)? Or will the car be fine, aside from rear wheel bearings every 17 miles, like a typical Subaru of this vintage?

I need your support through this matter. My sleep depends on it.

Thanks in advance to all the caring members of BITOG for helping me out. used oil analysis from the era of this Subaru would be helpful, or maybe not. Depends what they show.

Can you send me a video of how to delete this post then? Also, THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!!! 🤣

Can't help you there. But maybe just shut off the computer and kiss your wife, no way I'd trade a minivan for my wife but maybe I'm strange that way. 🤷‍♂️

Since this is a family site, I'll keep all the jokes I just thought of inside my head related to minivan features and relationships. But trust me, they were funny.

She won't drive a minivan but she'll drive a SUBARU 😵‍💫

We all know the demographics of the Subaru driver, maybe she doesn't and needs clued in :ROFLMAO:
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OIL IN THE SUBARU???? Maybe my question wasn't clear. 7500-8k going to blow the thing up or will I be ok?

I think I know the supposed survey data of which you elude to. I'll just say it's not a concern of mine. But the engine is. Will 8k on Kirkland oil likely destroy her car or not? I'm leveraging a potential Carnival on opinions. Help me out.

Sorry bud, the Forester will be fine on this extended change.

You’ll have to find another way to get that minivan.
I plan on excluding your opinion from my thesis to her. It's not that I hate you, or even dislike you, but it doesn't fit my narrative and needs currently. Hopefully you understand.

Can we still be anonymous Internet friends?

I forgot to mention it has a Fram Orange Can (FOC, pronounced "fawk") on it with the Kirkland oil rated for 10k on the box. Does this change your view?

One of the happiest days was when she no longer wanted a mini van …
Problem was - those grown kids wanted wheels 😷
So, I want a minivan. Maybe you missed that part? Also, will the engine explode or not?

The oil will be fine for 8k. Wouldn’t hurt a thing to step up to a 0/5W-30 in the future though.

The Carnival is a nice ride, we picked one up earlier this year. Don’t get why people hate minivans so much.

Have you actually sat inside a minivan? The features are pretty amazing. Wife? Minivan? As the younger generation says, "6-7?" 🤷‍♂️

Maybe we should just have a friendly BITOG wager on if the engine or CVT explode first?
Look, I've had the CVT fluid changed every 60k. So it's guaranteed to fail soon. Out of spite. I was asking about the ENGINE. OIL.

Please reply accordingly.
