All Oz-spec Elantra's have torsion-beam rear suspension, apart from the turbo version (called Elantra SR here).

torsion beam is used on the Veloster and the smaller models only in Europe. The Elantra/i30 uses independant suspension, no doubt the same construction used for the turbo/sr

Echoing the DCT comments as the owner of one on a competing make. Don't be too encouraged by the warranty as there are all manner of DCT issues that allow the car to be mobile but very unpleasant to drive: Hyundai may or may not be willing to address these. I sure don't plan to buy another.

That's quite a leap going from a Taurus to an Elantra. The Taurus is a nice, big highway cruiser. Kind of like a modern day CP. New 2016 models are going for $20k. The new Fusion is nice but is right around $20k as well. I'd probably go down one tier but not two tiers since you do a lot of driving. A nice used Fusion can be had right around $15-16k and seems to be a lot more car than the Elantra, which I do like btw. A used Fusion 2.0 ecoboost would be fun.
