Hey guys. Just bought a new ride and was wondering what you all thought I should run for oil. I rolled 3k miles today so will be doing a change soon. Also should I do a UOA for the first change or is that a waste?

Hard to go wrong with any of the major brands at Walmart. Castrol Magnatec is one such option that offers a lot of bang for the buck.

Does your owner's manual call for something specific?

I know the SRT versions need to use 0w-40, but I don't know if the regular R/T is different.

Run the first change out to the factory interval. Use up your free dealer oil changes then look in the what oil you want to run in it.

Yes, a UOA is a waste at these early miles.

"You'll see higher break in metals and we expect them to trend down. Your Hemi looks like others at this mileage. Try 8,000 miles next time."

That's what Blackstone would say and I've just saved you $40.

What did you end up running in your last suv? Based on a previous thread you created it seems that you like Castrol.

Long term Hemi owner here since 05. New 17 wants 20w. I know you'll think that's crazy so just remember the New Gen Hemi is NOT fussy about oil no matter what you've heard.

M1 0W-40 is my recommendation for a spirited driver who loves HP. It's what's on the cap on my SRT. I like to use 0W-30 in my Wife's 14 RAM. Smooth, happy, and great mileage.

Enjoy that ride, it's a slick package!

agree with this, I run 30 or 40w in mine depending on whats on sale.

in the Ram owners manual it now states 5-20 recommended 5-30 acceptable. i use pennzoil plat and mopar filters. 7000 mile oci or 6 months.

Nice rig...my wife has a 15 Citadel with the V6. I love how it drives...8 speed is great. Did you get the Beats audio?

Thanks for the $40 savings! LOL
I really didn't want to run 10k on the first oil change and I got exactly 0 free oil changes with purchase

This is only applicable to the 3.6. Under the 5.7 section it clearly states 5W20 and no other SAE grade is recommended.

Any proper rated oil from a major company will all be the same and a uoa will be a waste. Wait until 15,000 to 20,000 miles if you want to spend the money on a uoa.I'll bet that is a nice driver with the HEMI.

M1 EP 0w-20 is what I'd recommend. Enjoy the ride, they are a great vehicle
