What other engine options do you get in America with the Cruze ?

Here in Oz, we get the JH Cruze with either a 1.8L NA petrol at 104KW & 175 NM, or a 1.6L iTi Turbo petrol with 132 KW & 230 NM.

A few years a go they also offered the 1.4L iTi Turbo petrol at 103KW & 200NM, plus a 2.0L Turbo Diesel at 110 KW & 320 NM - both of these are no longer offered.

Are they similar to the engines you guys get ?

Only the 1.4 turbo is available that I am aware.

138hp at 4900 rpm Aka 103kW

148 lb-ft Aka 200Nm

So it seems the engine is probably the same, IMO, but the turbo and tuning it setup different. All the engines have the same hp here, but peak torque output is at a different rpm for manuals versus automatics.

Funny, we used to get the 1.8 NA offered- now it seems gone from the Cruze. Maybe the Sonic and Spark get hand me downs.

The 1.4L turbo engine is truly "all new" for 2017, hence my review. It's not at all the same old thing! Really is much better.

From a magazine test: "Although similar in displacement to the old turbo engine, this one is 35 cubic centimeters larger, freshly designed, and features a block cast of aluminum instead of iron. It’s 44 pounds lighter than the old 1.4T—it’s also lighter than the old naturally aspirated 1.8-liter four—and backs up to either a six-speed manual or the six-speed automatic transmission fitted to our test car. With 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, the new engine bests the old 1.4T by 15 horsepower and 29 lb-ft."

Thanks MJking and CUjet,
That all makes sense.

I like the sound of that new 1.4L 153hp / 114 kw engine, but I don't think we will get it here yet. We always seem to be a year or two behind when it comes to engines. Our (Holden) Malibu still uses the DI 2.4L, while I think you guys have a new 2.5 L engine in that car.

With the Australian 2016 Z-Series Cruze, the base models get the 1.8L NA (103kw / 138 HP) while the sporty SRi models get the 1.6 iTI Turbo (132kw / 177 HP) and 18" wheels (235/45). It sounds like our local Cruze models are built in Australia too.

What oil do they run your petrol iTi Turbo engines on ? I was looking into it here and the local lube guides suggest a Diesel / C3 / Dexos2 oil. I thought it was a mistake at first, but I now think they got it right, and want to spec a high HTHS oil for these little turbo engines.

Why? Start stop has been awesome used innvehucles ive driven over in Europe, as well as my hybrid.

Doesn't a hybrid have an electric motor that moves he car so you notice no delay? The BMW X5 I rented had it and I found a slight delay with an otherwise well sorted and responsive engine /transmission.

My 15 malibu has auto start/stop and i love it. I get mad when it doesn't work. It takes time to get use to but can work very well for u if u know how 2 work it. U just need 2 know how much pressure to apply to the brake pedal when u come 2 a stop.
