2016 Toyota Avalon - 12,000 miles Amsoil Signature Series 5W30

Yeah, the thing amazes me. I’m at 150,000 miles now and I’m 8,000 miles in on a run with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum…zero makeup oil at all. Nothing. Oil looks like it has 3,000 miles on it. But I’m seriously considering sticking to one oil for the remainder of my ownership of this thing, what that oil will be?? I’m not sure yet. Maybe Mobil1…I just like how easily available it is…sometimes on sale.
How do you like the PUP vs. other oils in your car? Pennzoil has a $25 cash back promo thru Sept. Check it out.

The amazing thing about Toyota's is that once they hit 200,000 miles, they remain reliable from 200,000 to 300,000 miles.
Any other brand starts falling apart after 200,000 miles.
Sturdy, reliable cars imo............except for the front axles being replaced at 73k on my 17 Camry. Go figure.

This a 12,000 mile run using Amsoil Signature Series. Vehicle has 149,000 miles on it now. It is my 5th or 6th 10,000 mile interval.

Engine is the Toyota V6 2GRFE. In the left column is the Amsoil Signature Series 5W30 and the right column is my previous analysis using Mobil1 0W20 EP.

Zero makeup oil with the Mobil1, half a quart makeup oil with the Amsoil (and filter change halfway through). Both performed remarkably similar in my opinion.

With adequate maintenance, you should easily be able to reach 300k miles in the Avalon. It's a bullet proof engine. It's a real shame that Toyota discontinued the model. Sadly Toyota discontinues some of it's best models. The Previa would routinely reach 300k miles on it's original engine and transmission and had a devoted fan base. 300k on a minivan was unheard of for the Chrysler mini-vans of that era.

I don't agree with the intervals but if this was my vehicle I would go back to Mobil 1 better to pay $26 at Walmart and grab your oil filter at the same time than to pay nearly double for what was better performance in your case since you say you didn't have to top up with Mobil 1.

I actually found that to be the case with my 1MZ-FE it would consume a little bit of QS and Valvoline but Mobil 1 5w30 HM it didn't consume any noticeable amount. It is why me as a QS fanboy has switched fully to Mobil 1 in all of my vehicles going forward.
Not apples to apples, the Mobil1 was HM.
You switched from your favorite brand based on an unequal comparison.

One of the better lubes in the marketplace, in one of the better engines ever made.
Should we be surprised that the wear numbers are so good?
This is exactly what I'd expect.

The OCI is way too short for this combo. That lube and oil could EASILY double the OCI and still have single digit wear values.
Don’t tempt me. Part of me wants to do exactly what you suggest (just to see how that UOA would look).

Other than fear of being labeled a heretic, what's stopping you?

Don't do it all at once.
First, run out to 15k miles; do a UOA (it's very likely to come back as good as this one)
Then, perhaps try 18k miles ... UOA
Then 20k ... UOA
I would add that if you're going to push out the OCIs, you should consider a high-capacity, high-efficiency filter (perhaps Fram FE, or similar).

You see, you'll never know where the limit is until you test out further. It's not like the engine will implode if you got a slightly higher wear rate at some point. Don't let frantic people gode you into short OCIs.

Fuel dilution isn't an issue; these engines don't have DI. So unless a fuel injector just poops the bed, it's a moot topic.

Other contamination can be easily seen in the UOA. While BS does not give soot or oxidation values, they do have an "insolubles" count. As long as the insolubles count is .5 or less, it should be fine. I think there are better methods of testing, but the insolubles valuation is at least some measure of the combination of soot and oxidation byproducts.

The wear rates are very, very low. As long as contamination isn't a problem, there's absolutely no logical reason not to extend the OCIs. I'm confident the combo of the 2GR-FE and Amsoil SS are more than up to the task.

I must have missed this question. Sorry.

I really like the PUP, just in terms of nothing more than color and lack of makeup oil needed. It kind of reminds me of Mobil1 in terms of the same things. Both the Mobil1 (triple action formula) and the Pennzoil leave this sort of reddish tint to the oil, kind of like tranny fluid but nowhere near as pronounced. Saw a video that mentioned that color last week (the motor oil geek), think they said it was from an additive some brands are now using for something (can’t remember what).

I’d buy and use it again, but I’m trying to settle on one oil from here on out, and I’m not sure I want to pay more for PUP when the Mobil1 is easier and less expensive for me to get.
