Is anyone else waiting to drive this car with the new 2.4L drivetrain? Should be pretty quick being in a smaller car.

The only reason they need a bigger motor is Acuras are getting too portly.

Time for a weight loss plan, Honda.

I would just buy a loaded Civic, personally.

A loaded Accord V-6 with all options is three grand less than a 4-cylinder entry level 2015 ILX.

That car is purely meant for folks who need a fancier badge to feel special.

Why exactly would I want a 2.4L civic?

Ya know, a lady at my office wanted a new car. She loved her old TLX so I suggest she at least get an Accord. She was all for it, then the sales guy suggested the ILX since it's mainly herself who drives it.

I strongly advised it since it's basically a dressed up Civic. I mean, what's the point? plus I also mentioned the smaller car would be noisier (to this she said the sales guy told her that it has some active noise canceling nonsence).

Against my advise (and another co-worker also into cars) she bought the ILX. Funny, not 1 week into ownership she was struggling to come up to things she actually like about the car over her previous car. She actually considered going back to the dealer to get her old car back LOL.

Here we are a couple of months later and she's considering trading in her 2015 for a 2016 when it comes out.

I tell ya, ya just can't fix stupid sometimes!

even the non-turbo would suffice!

Because it's only a 1500 dollar option on EX and EX-L trims, only gets 1mpg less and adds both power and refinement to an otherwise un-noteworthy compact car.

Oh, wait, that's in my fantasy dream world. In real life Honda would never do something so simple. Yeah, 10 grand premium for different badges and the same engine doesn't make as much sense. Or a 5 grand premium for a Civic SI that heads in the completely opposite direction so far as refinement/comfort.

My brother bought a 2013 with the 2.0 for his wife- after I told him to go get an EX-L Civic. But she loves it and is happy with it..I'm still shaking my head at him paying 29k for a glorified Civic.

Doesn't the Civic Si have the 2.4 already...?

And an Acura... seriously, why bother...? Talk about a brand that has lost its way...

I'd rather invest $35k into a Honda NSX.

It will do something no 2016 ILX is capable of....

Be worth $35k in 2020....

Can you get a 8 speed dual clutch in a Civic Si?

I can see the appeal of a Civic Si with some refinement - hold the boy racer image... but the question is "Are you willing to pay?"....

Im pretty sure Scion has been doing that for years on that xc coupe thing.

Im sorry, Im just not seeing how a 2.4L civic equals the refinement and comfort of an accord.

I think the current ILX is a poor effort on many levels but don't be so quick to dismiss this heavily revised model. That powertrain (particularly the 8DCT) combined with revised suspension tuning, NVH enhancements, and updated interior materials should make this a real competitor for A3 and CLA. Not sure why we're trying so hard to compare it to Accord, the two have different missions.

I think it's somewhat ironic that a single post can criticize an ILX buyer for being fooled--no---"stupid!" for buying a tarted-up Civic, then later agree that a Buick Verano (a tarted-up Cruze) is the right choice, even after taking away the very powertrain (2.0T) that differentiates it from its less expensive sibling.

Looking at the ILX, it does appear to be a nice little car. IMO the styling and interior quality does command a premium over the Civic.

It still feels like too much though, particularly when cars like the Mazda3 and MkVII Golf exist that combine great efficiency with well done interiors.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but this car makes sense at about $2k over a Civic Si. At $5k over an Si I'm probably not going to bite.

At $27k I'm noticing that I'm within spitting distance of a V-6 Accord or even a base TLX. I know that both are bigger cars and will drive like bigger cars, but if you're not committed to driving a physically smaller vehicle it's hard to ignore the value argument proposed by either of those other vehicles.

They finally put the right powertrain in this car for the majority of buyers. A k24 mated with a 8 or 9 speed transmission.

But at this price point why not spring a couple more thousand for a TLX? The TLX is a nice car and compared to the ILX looks like a bargain at $31k. The ILX at $27k, not so much.

Verano is $23k. So for me, it's Verano, Regal ($29k) or TLX.

The lightest TLX is about 3,500 pounds, and you can't buy an ILX that weighs more than 3,000 pounds. I'm sure Acura has made the TLX drive good, but smaller cars just drive like smaller cars. Some people like smaller and some people don't.

There's no one right answer; that's why we have so many great products from which to choose.

Agreed!

I can't think of a better time in history to be in the new car market. It's nice to have a friendly discussion without any bashing.
