6.0 Vortec, bought new in July, 15k miles so far, its the supervisors truck at work, he assigned me to maintaining it, so far its had 3 oil changes, two with Napa Dexos syn 5W30 and the last with Smittys Dexos 5W30, with either Baldwin or Napa Gold filters every 5k miles (truck is driven in muddy, dusty conditions, OLM is usually at 40% when I change it). Price is not a concern, as the company pays for oil and maintenance items, and we mainly deal with Napa and O'Reillys. What do yall think would be the best out of Napa Dexos 5W30, Smittys Dexos 5W30, and O Reillys Dexos 5W30, all full synthetic oils, in terms of better protection? I'm leaning towards the Smittys and the O'Reillys oils first because I like to support Louisiana businesses, I buy the
Smittys at Napa also. (Smittys is out of Roseland, LA and O Reillys is made by Omni out of Shreveport) but if theyre not my best choices in terms of wear protection, I'll go a different route. I'd like to stick with a Dexos oil for warranty purposes. The truck is a pig on gas, its a single cab, has never gotten better than 12 mpg since new but has never gotten any worse.

Out of those three I'd personally run the Napa Synthetic but that's because I've had good luck with Ashland oils for years and years. But the truth is the truck engine will likely not wear out on any of the three in the time he own it on a 5k OCI on a Delos oil.

Once it hits around 100k miles the company will buy him a new truck and it will be handed down to one of the guys there to use. With the way some of those guys take care of the work trucks itll probably last 200k and then itll be auctioned off

For 30k miles per year 5k OCI is really short. I run my 5.3 in silty dust and idle it all summer while I have lunch with the AC on (100°+) all summer. I run my synthetic for 10-15k with great UOA. You can use any name brand 5w30 in that truck.

I am sure FlynavyP3 meant "dexos" oil.

That's all you need to know.

I have raised and killed dozens of 6.0's in what may be one of the toughest duty cycles out there. Last one we sold had over half a million miles on it. They are incredibly long lasting, tough engines that are hard to kill...

I would agree with that. The 6.0 can deal with a wide range of oils, and in some rather austere conditions and keep on ticking. For my 2015 2500 6.0, it gets pretty much the same 10w30 that I use in most of my other stuff. Typical fleet style mindset of keeping oil varieties to a minimum. Obviously, a 10w30, irregardless of brand, is not going to be dexos1 approved, as that spec denies that 10w30 even exists. Doesn't mean that a 10w30 will be lacking in protection for the motor. The oil in question meets SN/GF-5 and GM 6094M and 4718M. So I think the bases are covered quite nicely. The pickup is garaged in a heated environment all winter unless being used. Some idea about oil flowing at -20F cold startup is a non issue in my situation. Would even work for the OP in his location.

GM is fully aware that fleets will use bulk oil that may not meet be on the approved dexos1 list. After all, the majority of the HD pickups are used in commercial settings.
