What's it going to take for Subaru to get all the customers they're about to lose back? And how soon will they have to do it?

I'd personally like to see them get 350hp on that 2.5 they're designing. Then knock an extra 100-200 pounds off, or maybe even offer that as an option on the STI to have fewer features for some extra weight loss...

Subaru is about to lose an entire crowd to Ford if this car is competitively priced. Even Subaru fans that would never touch a Ford normally seem to agree that this car is just better. But then again, maybe I'm looking at this wrong, and it's actually great for Subaru, because they can come out with something new and better in a few years and retain most customers... and then we'll end up with 3300 pound AWD track cars with 430hp. Or not. Not works too.

I liked the FWD focus hatch that I rented not too long ago. It was a good car.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
 
The uptake remains to be seen. Mazda and Mits made equivalent models and had few sales comparatively. My guess this car will eat some Subaru sales but also gain new customers who never considered Subaru anyway.

Plenty of hot hatches out there but Subaru still remains strong. I don't see it changing.

That being said I feel like I am too old to be seen driving one of these now

Too aggressive looking, my 04 WRX was dorky enough! The new WRX I don't mind the demure look but interior is way too low rent for my tastes. GTI is much nicer!
 
If this is priced the same as an STI, but has 20hp more and will probably end up being 100 pounds less, why would people still buy the STI?

Subaru people are also [censored] that they killed the hatch.
 
Car companies will only offer "more", when "more" is needed. But, if there is no competition in a particular segment then, they won't put forth the investment when they're the only game in town. And when a car company puts forth the effort for what you're talking about, they want the return on their investment or, it's not worth building.

Yes, Subaru may lose customers to FORD but, will they? Those who want this performance with the reliability will still buy Subaru. Will FORD offer this type of reliability? Remains to be seen yet!
 
Yeah... Ford's turbo engines haven't been doing very well so far. But who knows, this could be a solid engine with no problems after getting beaten on constantly. Or it could be [censored].

Boy, did you read my thoughts! That's why I bought the 2.0T SFS... for some semblance of turbo feel but packaged in a conservative (heavy) cross-over body. I miss my Evolution but would probably get a GTi or Focus ST today .
 
I'm 58 and I will definitely consider an RS if I'm in the market when the car goes on sale. Ditto for the rumored 300 hp AWD Mazdaspeed 3.

Lincoln MKC already has this engine in the same platform. They have an AWD system (PDU, rear diff) already on this platform.

I wonder how real the "torque vectoring" will be?

Subaru is still going to have a better AWD system ... not an afterthought one like the Focus RS will have.

It isn't an afterthought AWD system. Read up on the AWD system developed for the Escape. It is an amazing setup.

Huh? On What planet, cause not on Earth.

Ecoboost 3.5 has been pretty solid since late 2009
Ecoboost 4's have been pretty solid since 2010/2011

Ford has well over 2 million Ecoboosts (as of 2013) of various flavors on the road and few problems.

Do you have data that suggests otherwise?

And to keep it on topic, this car looks awesome! Might be a great replacement for the SHO in a few years.

The egoboost track record(4cyl) of 2 years isnt very long.

This car coming in a 40000$ after dealers price them up.

If its a standard haldex with electronic braking on the wheels I'll puke.

I will say ford's 6mt shifts a ton better than subaru's. The engine is very promising.. [censored] the hole car is promising now make it in a 270hp model for 30000$ I'd probably buy. 40000$ just isnt in my car budget... maybe a 3 year old one for 25000$?

Note to subaru: WHERE THE HECK did you put the wrx hatchback?

They've done well with the drive system on past RS. Revo-Knuckle FWD was pretty slick. I anticipate a robust AWD system also.

I have been reading about this Focus RS for a while and have been really wanting one. I cant wait for them to get here and learn more about them and possibly put one in my garage.

It's been around since 2010 in Europe and 2011 in the states. It is used in their highest volume vehicles (Fusion and Escape). I'd not be worried in the least bit.
